Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Amaral.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a physical therapist 5 years ago after graduating from the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. I kicked things off back home in Massachusetts but eventually felt like I needed a change—something a little warmer than ND winters and with more room to grow. Colorado ended up being a great fit for both me and my partner with its’ beautiful scenery and comfortable vibes.
Since moving out here, I’ve had the chance to work in a various settings—from outpatient clinics to home health—and over time, I really found my stride working with people who have vestibular issues, concussions, or just complicated, stubborn pain that doesn’t always fit in a box. I went on to get certified in vestibular and concussion rehab, and eventually started my own practice so I could treat patients the way I believe they deserve to be treated: one-on-one, without the rush, and with care that actually fits their life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say this journey has been a mix of on and off-roading. I have found that although I did enjoy working at various clinics in Massachusetts and Colorado, I always felt ultimately unsatisfied. It seemed as though I could not fully utilize my skills and struggled with short time frames for effective treatment of my patients. I would try working in different clinics but I couldn’t shake this general malaise with working in public healthcare. In hindsight I recognize that although my struggles working in the typical healthcare setting were significant at times, they pushed me to pursue independence in my career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Gemini Physical Therapy is a private practice I created to offer something that’s often missing in traditional healthcare: personalized, high-quality care without the red tape. I specialize in vestibular and concussion rehab, as well as orthopedic injuries and return to sport/activities. Whether you’re dealing with dizziness, balance issues, a lingering injury, or just not feeling like yourself after a fall or concussion—I meet you where you are and I’m there to guide you through the entire process.
What makes Gemini different is the time and attention I give each patient. I don’t believe in cookie-cutter treatment plans or rushing people through sessions. I take a one-on-one, human-first approach, whether I’m treating someone in my clinic or providing concierge visits in their home. I also love working with patients who’ve been told nothing more can be done—those are usually the ones who benefit the most from care that’s actually tailored to them.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the fact that Gemini reflects my values. It’s approachable, science-backed, a little edgy, and unafraid to question the status quo in healthcare. I’m looking into social media to provide educational content to make rehab more engaging—and let’s be honest, a little cooler. If I can empower people to understand their bodies better and feel supported through recovery, then everyone wins.
At the end of the day, I want people to know they don’t have to settle. There’s another way to do physical therapy—one that listens, adapts, and actually helps them feel better. That’s what Gemini is here for.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honestly, I think the most important quality behind my success has been genuineness. I show up as a real person, not a robotic provider just checking boxes. Whether I’m working with someone through chronic dizziness, post-concussion symptoms, or stubborn pain that no one’s been able to figure out—I listen, I adapt, and I meet people where they’re at. That level of trust and connection makes all the difference in outcomes, especially in a field like physical therapy where progress is personal and not always linear.
I’m also not afraid to challenge outdated ideas, advocate for my patients, or push back on systems that don’t serve them. That mindset helps me create care that actually works, and keeps my practice growing in a direction I can be proud of.
