Community Highlights: Meet Sheila Clemenson of Transitions Coaching Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Clemenson.

Hi Sheila, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
With soul searching and following my calling, I started my business Transitions Coaching Services, LLC in January, 2018. I specialize in supporting clients through career transitions. From the beginning of my career in Human Resources, my passion is connecting people with their life’s work while being true to themselves. My life has been one of many transitions, so I wholeheartedly understand where my clients are coming from, especially if they’ve had a challenging past or taken a rocky road to get where they are now.

I believe that when people work from their strengths that they hit the bulls-eye every single time and from this place they are most successful. I show them how to connect more fully with this and how to bring it forward professionally.
This includes career and lifestyle design focusing on work/life balance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started down the path of helping others through transition in their life and career after losing my first husband, Grant, in 1999 at a young age to ALS. Life took a devastating turn for me but through the process, I learned how to create a safe space for others in difficult situations to grow and move forward. As a young widow, I discovered what was really important to me in life – making a difference in the lives of others. I’m living into my values, strengths, and experiences by helping people move forward in their careers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The hardest thing to overcome is feeling like you’ve done everything right, but realizing you aren’t getting anywhere. It’s not readily apparent what could be improved in your approach because you are too close to it and need an objective, yet more educated perspective.
I think it helps having someone with experience in how the hiring and promotion process works internally. As a former HR Advisor, I share the inner workings about how candidates are selected for interviews and why they get hired. I specialize in helping clients move from one career or job family to another and often from one industry to another. I bring over 20 plus years of human resources experience, a career development certification, and background with coaching expertise in grief and loss as a grief recovery specialist.
These are some things I help with:

You are not being seen or heard in your job.

You are consistently passed up for promotions.

You question whether your job or career is even right for you.

You want to do something different, but don’t know where to start.

You are going through a difficult life and career transition and need support.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Well, I am an entrepreneur at heart. I’ve created several businesses based on my passions over the years. The first was Healing Palms of Kauai, Inc. which was a getaway retreat for caregivers on the island of Kauai. Another was my grief wellness coaching business. I assisted many clients through the rebuilding process after their spouse or partner died. These continue to be deep passions and areas of expertise gained through my personal experiences of loss and rebuilding my life. Of course, I actively secured certifications and training to help me fill in the gaps of what I didn’t have or thought I needed more of to be a more effective professional. I have many resources, tools and strategies in my tool box. This has helped to build my confidence while doing new things and stretch into taking more risks.

When the economy took a downturn in 2008, I decided to go back to my HR roots and secure a more stable and secure position in my wheelhouse. However, in 2017 my professional life was miserable and I was in severe job burnout. My husband, Shawn supported my decision to leave my employer and pursue my next passion – helping people to pursue exciting new career positions for the ultimate purpose of loving what they do and creating more rewarding and meaningful lives.

I encourage my clients to say “Yes” to doing things that are uncomfortable and to actively push outside of their comfort zones.

When I started my business, I actively said “Yes” to opportunities that came my way, whether I could see what they would bring or not.  Some of these things were initially uncomfortable, such as joining a Leads Group. Other opportunities such as being an ambassador of Superior Chamber of Commerce, and a Career Navigator at Dress for Success in Denver have helped me to build my business with a solid reputation in my community. And in 2021, I was awarded with the “Solo Business of the Year” by the Superior Chamber of Commerce.

I hope this helps prospective clients know that I walk my talk by building trust and respect in my relationships, and it’s the foundation of everything I do.
