Today we’d like to introduce you to Sormeh Salimpour. Them and their team share their story with us below:
My journey to get to where I am today is a unique one. Graduating college in 2008, I was adamant I wanted a career in fashion. I quickly began an internship at Fashion PR firm, Peoples Revolution, which then led me to assisting celebrity stylist, Monica Rose. With a few years of experience under my belt, I came to the realization that as much as I loved my career in fashion, it was not a lifestyle that was sustainable for me long term. At this point, it only made sense that I joined forces with my mom, as co founders of our own company, focusing in landscape and interior design. I was able to use my creative brain, working along side of my mother, who taught me everything there is to know about the design world. With ten years of hands on experience under my belt, working on multimillion dollar projects, the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and it forced me to revaluate my life and career in the best way. With millions of people forced to stay at home, it was more apparent than ever, that there was a huge demand to dress these spaces, without the complications and luxury of renovation and construction. During this time, my boyfriend received a job offer he couldn’t refuse, relocating us from Los Angeles, California to Denver, Colorado. There was no better time to launch my own company, Interiors by Sormeh, than with this move. It has been 4 months here in Colorado and I am beyond blessed to have quickly found an incredible creative community and a handful of clients who have been nothing short of wonderful.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have been lucky to have the best mentor, my mother. Being able to learn from the mistakes she made early on in her career and implement those lessons into my growing business, has luckily been a smooth road thus far. I would say one of the challenges I have faced is relocating to Denver, CO, and leaving behind my incredible team of artisans that I have worked with over the last 10 years back in California. I am now in a new state, which means getting acquainted with what my new city has to offer me in the creative field. But, that’s also half the fun!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Interiors by Sormeh?
My goal is to show people that hiring an interior decorator does not need to be a daunting experience. I want to bring approachable and affordable services to the majority.
In addition to my Interior Decorating services, I also have a shop on my website, showcasing a small selection of the most beautiful mud cloth pillows. My offerings in my shop will continuously change and grow, but it is all curated by me, as a reflection of my personal style and aesthetic.
