Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Lanham.
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in the hair industry for over 15 years, and from the start, I knew this was more than just a job for me — it was a calling. I began as a young stylist eager to learn everything I could, working long hours, taking extra classes, and saying “yes” to every opportunity to grow my skills. Over the years, I fell in love with creating transformations that made people feel confident and beautiful.
Owning my own salon had always been the ultimate goal. I had the opportunity to own one years ago, before having kids, and took a pause after a few years to focus on my family. I always knew I wanted to return to it — this time creating a space that truly reflects my personal style and values. In 2025, that dream became a reality with Copper Cactus Hair Studio — it is a place where clients feel welcomed, cared for, and inspired.
Every step of the journey, from assistant to salon owner, has been about passion, persistence, and connection. I’m proud of where I’ve landed, and even more excited about where this journey will go next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of challenges — balancing motherhood with building a business, navigating the uncertainty that comes with big career changes, and pushing through moments of self-doubt. There were seasons where it would have been easier to play it safe, but I knew that wasn’t where my passion lived.
Stepping back into salon ownership after years away meant starting from scratch in many ways — rebuilding a clientele, creating a brand from the ground up, and making sure every detail aligned with my vision. It required long days, tough decisions, and trusting myself even when the path ahead wasn’t clear.
Looking back, those challenges shaped the business — and me — into something stronger, more resilient, and more aligned with my values.
We’ve been impressed with Copper Cactus Hair Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Copper Cactus Hair Studio is a place where beauty meets intention. I specialize in color, extensions, and men’s cuts, with a focus on creating looks that are customized to each client’s personality, lifestyle, and goals. My clients know they’re not just getting a service — they’re getting an experience. From the moment they walk in, I want them to feel welcomed, comfortable, and confident that they’re in good hands.
What sets Copper Cactus apart is the blend of artistry and authenticity. Every appointment is approached with precision, creativity, and an honest conversation about what will make the client look and feel their best. I have a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life, creating an environment where clients feel truly seen, heard, and valued. I’m proud to say that much of my clientele has come through word-of-mouth referrals, which to me is the highest compliment a stylist can receive.
Brand-wise, Copper Cactus reflects who I am — warm, approachable, and detail-oriented, with a touch of elevated style. It’s not just about hair; it’s about creating a space where people leave feeling more confident, empowered, and seen.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My biggest advice is to approach networking and mentorship with authenticity. Don’t just look for someone with an impressive title — look for people whose values, work ethic, and energy align with yours. Some of the most valuable connections I’ve made weren’t through formal networking events, but through genuine conversations, mutual support, and showing up consistently in my industry.
When it comes to finding a mentor, be open to learning from more than one person. Sometimes the best “mentors” are peers who challenge you, clients who give honest feedback, or other business owners. I’ve learned the most from observing how others navigate challenges and lead.
Above all, focus on building relationships rather than chasing opportunities — the opportunities will naturally follow when people know you’re genuine, reliable, and passionate about what you do.
