Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylyn Rose.
Hi Taylyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Modeling and film is something I’ve done for years. I began doing both with the goal of inspiring people to feel like they belong. Society does a great job of telling you how you’re supposed to look and what is considered gorgeous/handsome, or cool. When I was young, I became interested in taking pictures, videos, or being in front of the camera in general. I started modeling at 10 years old for a local photographer. My mother used to model clothing and was a runway model at one point. As she has experience, she taught me what it takes to become a model and at age 21 I still use a lot of her advice she had given me. Through high school I joined a filming class, some of the films I made in that class won award at film festivals. It wasn’t a secret I am good at these two things. I believe am supposed to use my talent with modeling and filmmaking to inspire people, to bring awareness to topics like mental health. Would you believe me if I told you I was bullied in high school? One of the things I was bullied for in high school was how I dressed; I always had a different style than everyone else. Now that style is one of my biggest compliments when modeling with photographers. What I want people to see through my work is it’s ok to be yourself, I encourage anyone struggling with themselves to push past that. For a while I wasn’t who I am today, I gave into society’s standards of what they say is accepted, and guess what? I was still bullied. I realized you will be judged for being fake and you will be judged for being yourself, so might as well love who you are and be judged for it than hate who you are and have the same result. Once I started to find who I was, I became a happier person and was able to help those around me. Now more than ever I am pushing myself to tell stories through the modeling pictures, to create something more than just a picture. In 2020 I began to create music, one of my most powerful songs I wrote was about sexual assault, I even did a photoshoot and music video to help bring awareness to the topic. I may be from a small town in Colorado, but I know my place in the world is to do something big, a change no one has seen before, and I will work hard to be that change.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If success was an easy thing everyone in the world would be successful. The people who are successful are the ones that don’t quit. Everyone will run into obstacles in their life but the people who push passed those obstacles will make it. High school was when I felt the most judgment, I was bullied, called names, people even made fun of the simplest imperfections, like my teeth. I was told my voice and songs would never make it, now I have music on iTunes and Spotify. I was told I was too ugly or fat for someone to take pictures of me, now I have been chosen to write my story in this article. I was told my films were the worst thing some people have seen, now I have awards for my winning films. The world can be a very dark, cruel place BUT that is only if you let it be that way. Someone once told me ” Don’t listen to the noise.” and I now remind myself that’s all haters are, are noise. Anything you want in life will never be easy, but if you want it bad enough it doesn’t matter how hard things get you will find a way to push through anything in your way to make sure you reach that goal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
TaylynRose Productions is a film marketing business for small companies. I have made many advertisements for growing companies. Every film I make, I make sure to make it something that is going to inspire someone. For example, I filmed an advertisement for a warrior gym. In the ad, I showed the hard work the customers put in at the gym and the true commitment to pushing and bettering themselves. I also use this business to bring awareness to topics that most people wouldn’t dare to talk about. I have made a few films I promote on YouTube; one was a documentary for a suicide awareness group. That documentary was one of the hardest films I have ever made, purely because of the emotion and pain I captured. The documentary was about my friend Joshua who took his life at the age of 15 and how/why the program was started. I remember interviewing his dad for the film and thinking this is what I want to do in life, I want to show the truest emotions, and show people the reality of our world. That documentary was hard to make because we did exactly that, we wanted people to see the true pain this parent was going through for losing his son. Imagine how many other people grieve that same pain, and how so little is being done about that topic. But what if those same people saw my film and saw they weren’t alone? What a difference that could make in someone’s life.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I can see myself being a mental health advocate. A safe place for people to go when they feel at their worst. I had someone like that when I was in high school, I watched a YouTuber and his films brought me back to reality, the empty feeling in me would leave, the happiness I once felt would come back. Any time I felt alone, or like I was ready to give up I would watch his videos and he would make content for people like me to understand I wasn’t alone, and to keep trying. What he made changed my life, and in a way saved my life. I want to become that for people. I want anyone that is feeling the same pain I felt to know they will be okay and they will get through it. I can see myself making films, music and creating stories through photography that help people feel a little less alone, give them a little more hope, or just make them smile for a minute. I want to be a voice for people that can’t find theirs, I want to be someone’s inspiration to be a better person.
