Hi, I’m Tessa—most people call me Tess. Fun fact: that “A” in my name? It’s also the “A” in your Asset.

Seven years ago, I was managing a boutique real estate brokerage in Denver. I wore all the hats—bookkeeping, marketing, admin, operations. I saw firsthand how heavy the load could be for agents trying to juggle it all. The more successful they became, the more overwhelmed they felt. And I get it—long hours in the car, 150+ emails waiting when you finally check your phone, contracts still needing to be written after a full day of appointments… and let’s not forget dinner to make and kids to tuck in. The work never really ends, does it?

It was in the middle of that chaos that Agent Asset was born.

Because I believe a thriving business shouldn’t come at the cost of your sanity—or your life outside of work. I’ve been in those moments where everything feels heavy and the question crosses your mind: Why did I even start this? But here’s the truth we often forget—business is a team sport. And no one should have to do it all alone.

Agent Asset was built to be that team.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Honestly, if any business owner answers “yes” to that question, they probably haven’t been in business long enough.

We launched Agent Asset in 2020, as the real estate market was booming and virtual support was in high demand. Things took off quickly—almost too quickly. But like many others, we felt the shift when the market softened in 2023. Interest rates peaked, the economy dipped, inflation surged, and 2024 marked the lowest number of home sales nationwide since 1995. Our clients were directly impacted by 73% of agents and mortgage lenders leaving the industry. And when agents don’t have business for themselves, they often can’t afford to keep a team.

So we pivoted hard. We made our real estate services more flexible and affordable and expanded into other small business industries. It was a challenge but also an opportunity to get creative, dig deep, and build something more sustainable. We’re moving into a more optimistic market with stronger roots and a clearer vision.

On a personal level, I faced another kind of challenge—balance. I had my son the same year I started the business, and my daughter two years later. The very reason I started Agent Asset—to create a life with more freedom for my family—suddenly felt like it was slipping away. That forced me to pause and reevaluate what I truly wanted, both as a mom and a business owner.

It was at that moment that I realized I needed support, too, just like the clients we serve. That’s when I started growing my team, and that decision changed everything.

You might’ve noticed that “Asset” spelled backward is Tessa. That’s not a coincidence—it’s a reminder of the heart behind what we do.

It offers access to experienced mentors and practical tools that can really make a difference. I’ve also found a lot of value in small business communities on Facebook. You’d be surprised how supportive and resourceful those groups can be when you’re just getting started or need advice from people who’ve been there.

Personally, I feel incredibly lucky. I launched my business with my husband by my side—he’s been my mentor, my biggest cheerleader, and a constant source of encouragement since day one. Having someone who believes in you and challenges you to grow is truly invaluable.

My advice? Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The right mentor or network doesn’t just give you answers—they help you believe in your own ability to figure things out.
