Community Highlights: Meet Tonya Alonzo of Barre3 Colorado Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Alonzo.

Hi Tonya , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
A couple of years ago, I left corporate America to purchase my barre3 Colorado Springs studio. I had been a client since it opened, and the opportunity was presented to me probably when I most needed it. I enjoyed my career for many years but found that during COVID, I needed to do something different for me and my family. I also wanted to give back to my community differently than I had been even after serving on a non-profit board for three years. Most people don’t leave a title and income, but I took a chance on myself. I am continuing to build the studio, as you can imagine through the pandemic, it was like starting from scratch. I could not do this without the support of my family, my team, and the community that continues to support female-owned small business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The transition was not always a happy one. I was scared and quite honestly still am today. I must rely on my team to help grow my business and take care of clients. I also have to rely on others in the community to help support and find the passion I did when I was a client. Everyone has their reasons for coming to a studio. My reasons will always be different than someone else’s. No matter where anyone is on their journey, mentally, physically, or emotionally that we have a strong community of support and meeting everyone’s needs. My biggest challenge is getting people to come in for a class to see what we are all about. The 3 in barre3 stands for strength, cardio, and mindfulness. There isn’t anything out there that compares for a complete overall workout, and I guarantee the community is one of the strongest in the industry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our studio is a female-owned small busines and is the only studio of its kind in Colorado Springs. Barre3 is a full-body balanced workout combining strength, cardio, and mindfulness that will leave you feeling balanced in body and empowered from within. We’re building a community founded on body positivity and inclusivity. We offer a variety of classes seven days a week. We also offer Play Lounge for busy parents to be able to take classes. We have exciting events and great member benefits as well year-round. Our entire team goes above and beyond for everyone, and it shows in our ratings and reviews.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would share with anyone starting out that it is okay to be uncertain at times, it is okay to ask for help from others and don’t be afraid to break down and reset. There will be days and times that it is necessary to refill your cup and come back stronger the next day. I would also share that taking a chance on yourself and others is one of the bravest things anyone can do and to remember that. It may not be today that you see results but the work you are putting in today is for tomorrow and the long term. Continue to grind and keep up the hustle.
