Community Highlights: Meet Tracy Schoepflin of Tennyson Street Warehouse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Schoepflin.

Tracy Schoepflin

Hi Tracy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Tracy Schoepflin and I am one of the owners of Tennyson Street Warehouse along with my husband Bill, and our daughter Jessie. We purchased the business at the end of July when the previous owner decided to move to Texas to be with family. Tennyson Street Warehouse is a Vintage and antique home décor marketplace. Our daughter Jessie is the inspiration behind the business and the reason my husband and I decided to retire from our jobs and help make the warehouse a fun modern take on Vintage home décor.

We are all creative-minded and several years ago when covid hit we started refinishing furniture part-time under the name Make Me Modern Decor. Soon the furniture business expanded to more small items as well as the opening of some booths in local antique and craft malls. This decision led us to open a booth at Tennyson Street Warehouse in December of 2022. Eight months later, when the opportunity became available to purchase the business we jumped at the chance. We closed the shop for a month and reopened in September 2023 with a new look and a new attitude when it comes to vintage home décor.

Every day is something new and we continue to learn the ins and outs of running a business. We are a bit off the beaten path but well worth the visit. Our vision is to showcase vintage items in a new and modern way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tennyson Street Warehouse was an established antique mall but that came with the challenge of changing people’s idea of what they would find when they shop our store. We provide a boutique feeling that is more curated than a traditional antique store.

I would say one of the biggest challenges is showcasing a nice cozy space in a warehouse district. I guess the struggle is getting people into the shop so that once they are here we can help them see how cool vintage décor can mix seamlessly into their modern homes.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The shop is called Tennyson Street Warehouse. It is a vintage marketplace and has been around for about 7 years. Our hours are Thursday through Sunday 10 am to 5 pm. Within Tennyson Street Warehouse is our brand, Make Me Modern Décor, but we also have several other vendors.

The shop offers refinished and original furniture, small home décor items, books, records, jewelry, original pieces from India, incense, and textiles. You will also find items centered around travel and adventure with globes, pennants, and brass pieces. I think what sets vintage apart is you are finding one-of-a-kind items. And the shop is always getting in new merchandise so each time you shop you will see new items.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
I continue to learn every day about the business and how to make it better.

I would never think I have enough knowledge to tell anyone else what they should do but the one piece of advice I would share is to find something you are passionate about so that going to work every day is fun and always an adventure.
