Community Highlights: Meet Valeri Dicosola of Valeri Dicosola Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeri Dicosola.

Hi Valeri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Upstate NY and went to college in Buffalo. I received my marketing degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York in the early 90s. I’ve always had jobs in marketing and sales. I have always wanted to sell real estate. I like people, houses, and decorating/home projects. I received my realtor license in Ohio in 2009.

In 2011 my youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. We were living in Cincinnati for 10 years due to work and had no extended family there that could help us with hospital visits and the difficult 2 1/5-year treatment that she needed to go through. In 2012 my husband and I decided to move our family to Denver so she could finish her treatment and we could live near a sister and her family. That was our introduction to Denver!

We were super happy with how dry the climate is here and how many people focus on their health. We knew this was a good choice for our family of 5 to settle and develop new roots. My daughter finished her treatment in 2013 and I received my real estate license right around that time as well. We chose to move to Parker where our children could attend school a quarter mile from our home. We found many of the activities they were involved in were right in Parker. We found Parker to be a very friendly and convenient place to call our new home.

After I passed my real estate exam for Colorado, I chose a brokerage in Parker to begin my practice. I found it challenging at first for many reasons. For one, I was pretty new to the area and didn’t know too many people. I also didn’t know the roads and neighborhoods that well. I would consider myself a good student and I met many new people through my kid’s school and our church. It helped me grow my network of people. It also helped me meet many new contractors who would become my business partners.

Through the years, I always remained a consistent agent. I didn’t sell the most, but certainly not the least. When I would sell a home, I would call most of my client’s friends. This business is so personal. You get to know each other on a deeply personal level. When you list a person’s home, you are in their personal space often. You can become a counselor to them. Many people don’t want to sell their homes but need to.

I’m here to help make the process less stressful for them. If they are moving out of state, I help them coordinate where they’ll be living on the other end. I always make sure I communicate with the agent that will be welcoming them to their new home. Sometimes people are selling and move to another home within the state. This is another challenging situation. The move-out and move-in need to be executed perfectly.

Through each challenging situation, I am here for my clients. I like to say I have a white glove level of service. No matter how much money a home is worth, I give the same treatment to each client. When people are interviewing a real estate agent, questions that typically come up are “what does your marketing look like, or “how many homes have you sold.” I always stack up with better agents. I even received the Agent of the Year award for the City of Parker in 2022 according to Rate My Agent.

Some questions I think people should ask is “How well do you work with other agents?” Find out what their reputation is to work with. Some agents are non-responsive to emails, texts, and phone calls. Some agents are rude to other agents. This is unacceptable. I ALWAYS answer my phone. I am attentive to my clients. Even when times are stressful, I’m still there to answer their questions and help them navigate through those times.

That’s what this business is all about customer service. It is something I think customer service is diminishing these days. We are paid well, and we should earn every bit of it. We also have a fiduciary duty to our clients. I take this very seriously. I recently joined the Worldwide Women’s Association. I am looking forward to getting involved this year and networking with other women. I enjoy helping other women and enjoy seeing them succeed in their passions.

Life threw our family a few difficult curve balls, but we managed to remain a tight family through my daughter’s treatment and our big move to Denver. Fast forward 10 1/2 years later, my older 2 kids (young adults) are both attending CSU in Fort Collins, and the youngest attends High School in Aurora. SO MUCH DETAIL… LET ME KNOW WHERE I NEED TO MAKE CHANGES!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am very customer focused. I try to prepare them for every step of the transaction…before potential problems arise. I will let them know “what’s next” and “what could happen” depending on how the other side of the transaction reacts. I’m always communicating. This goes with negotiating. Negotiating is a huge part of real estate. When working with the agent on the other side of the transaction, he/she and I need to figure out what a win-win for both parties is.

Collaboration is key when negotiating. I work with both buyers and sellers. I have done a lot of relocations. I enjoy working with the aging population. I find they need extra assistance with removing items from their home. I will help them declutter, remove the trash, and stage the home. Some aging people aren’t necessarily technologically savvy-I don’t mind. I have been told I have a lot of patience. I often say, “no job is not my job”.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Choose your Brokerage well. It can make you or break you. I think I chose well, but I did grow out of it after a few years. You have to treat everyone well/professionally. Your reputation will follow you.
