Community Highlights: Meet Vanessa Adkinson, M.S. of P31 Home

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Adkinson, M.S..

Vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve had the honor of serving both my country and my community — first as a United States Marine and later as a civilian in law enforcement. I hold multiple degrees in psychology, criminal justice, and human services (social work), which have allowed me to understand people and systems on a deeper level. Throughout my career, I gained invaluable skills and worked alongside some of the most capable, dedicated teams out there. I served as a crisis negotiator deployed with the SWAT team, a member of a mobile mental health unit supporting people in crisis, and a domestic violence subject matter expert.

After sustaining a serious on-the-job injury that required multiple surgeries and a long recovery process, I found a new purpose. While I was healing, people began reaching out to me for guidance through their own complex and often overwhelming life challenges. Many were highly successful individuals who felt unsure where to turn for help, fearful of professional or personal repercussions.

Drawing on my experience, community connections, and unwavering commitment to service, I began helping them find real, actionable solutions and empowering them to take steps forward.

My passion for philanthropy, community, advocacy, and mentorship inspired me to create P31 Home — a consulting business rooted in these core values. At P31 Home, I offer a safe, confidential space for leaders, professionals, and helpers who may feel hesitant to seek support due to stigma or fear of societal judgment. Whether someone is meeting me to plan a charity event, prepare for a public speaking engagement, collaborate on a book series, or receive a personal consultation, no one else needs to know — and that privacy is fiercely protected.

P31 Home has become the place where the helpers go for help. I feel deeply grateful to provide this resource to the community and to support clients on a wide range of topics, including trauma, domestic violence, addiction, sexual assault, mental health, suicide prevention, leadership challenges, and nonprofit or business guidance.

We’ve already been able to walk alongside many incredible people — as clients, collaborators, and friends — and I’m excited to continue growing this mission of hope and empowerment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in my business has been navigating the marketing and technology side. I’ve been blessed to stay busy through word-of-mouth and community connections, but I know that to grow and reach more people, a stronger online presence is essential.

Marketing isn’t where I naturally shine — my heart has always been in direct service and community work. That’s why I decided to bring in experts who share my vision and can help me tell P31 Home’s story in a meaningful way.

I partnered with Jen Peterson from Slay with Jen for social media strategy. Her creativity and energy have already given me a fresh perspective on connecting authentically with the community.

For my website, I started working with Madeleine Costa of Succeeding Small after winning a free website giveaway. I was so impressed with their heart and professionalism that I continued partnering with them long-term.

Both Jen and Madeleine have made this part of my journey feel exciting instead of overwhelming. I’m truly looking forward to seeing how these collaborations help P31 Home grow and reach even more people who need support and hope.

We’ve been impressed with P31 Home, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
P31 Home is a unique consulting and mentorship firm designed for people who often find themselves supporting everyone else but rarely have a safe space for themselves. We work with leaders, entrepreneurs, nonprofit founders, first responders, and other high-impact individuals who want personalized, trusted guidance as they navigate both professional and personal challenges.

What sets us apart is the way we blend strategy, heart, and discretion. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, every consultation is tailored to the individual’s needs — whether they’re facing a crisis, building a new venture, or stepping into a new chapter of leadership. Privacy is at the core of everything we do, and clients can show up fully as themselves without fear of judgment or unwanted exposure. We also provide genuine, results-oriented referrals when someone needs a lawyer, therapist, or further specialized services. Our clients can expect clear options and practical ideas that apply directly to their situation, empowering them to take meaningful next steps.

Beyond one-on-one support, we actively celebrate and uplift other entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits. We believe deeply in community over competition and are passionate about connecting people with the right resources and networks to help them thrive. We also teach classes, are available for public speaking engagements, and are working on an inspiring book series to reach and empower even more people.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that P31 Home has become known as a trusted, reliable anchor for people navigating life’s most challenging and defining moments. Our work is built on integrity, authenticity, and a strong belief in empowering each person to step confidently into their next season.

More than anything, I want readers to know that P31 Home isn’t just about consulting — it’s about creating a ripple effect of growth and healing that extends far beyond each individual. Whether you’re navigating trauma, big life transitions, business decisions, or simply need someone in your corner, P31 Home is here to support you with unwavering dedication and care.

How do you think about luck?
There have been moments that felt serendipitous — like winning a website giveaway with Succeeding Small that completely transformed our online presence, or connecting with the right people at just the right time who helped amplify our mission. These moments of “luck” opened doors I hadn’t even imagined and allowed P31 Home to grow faster and reach more people.

However, I also believe that luck favors those who are willing to put in the hard work, show up consistently, and stay true to their values. The foundation of P31 Home was built through years of service, deep community involvement, and a genuine commitment to helping others. So while I’m grateful for the lucky breaks along the way, it’s the preparation, resilience, and faith behind the scenes that truly made those moments matter.
