Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Ulfstam.
Hi Aaron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Tattooing is something that always interested me. I started working in tattoo shops when I was 21. I got my first tattoo at 16 as a gift from my Nana and at this point, I have about 90% of my body tattooed. I was drawn to the bold and bright designs of sailors and the full-body suits of Japanese tattooing. I managed dedication tattoo for seven years before the I got courage to ask them to teacher. I’ve been apprenticing for 2 1/2 years and tattooing for about 15 months.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles for me was self-doubt. But I believe if you put the effort and time into something you’ll see the benefits. Walking away from a steady job and good pay to pursue my lifelong dream wasn’t an easy choice. It meant working 6 to 7 days a week often working 5 AM to 8 PM.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I really enjoy bold lines, heavy shading, and the bright colors of American traditional. I also like the level of details you can get from a fine line black and gray tattoos as well. However, as long as your tattoo has a black outline I’m happy to do it. Connecting with people through tattooing is my favorite. I find so much satisfaction from helping my clients celebrate life events to remembering those who have been loved and lost. I think tattooing has a lot of magic in that way. When I’m not tattooing I’m painting or doing ballpoint pen drawings.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife has been my biggest supporter since day one, she sacrificed a lot to help me pursue my dream. I wouldn’t be where I am now without Brian Thurow and Sam Yamini. However, everyone at dedication over the years was taught me something that has helped me along my path.
