Conversations with Abbey Seufer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Seufer.

Hi Abbey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working as a physician assistant in OBGYN immediately after graduating from PA school. One of the things that drew me to women’s health was the focus on preventative health care throughout the lifespan. I was seeing women from adolescence through the reproductive years and well into menopause. Several years into my career, I was noticing a pattern of women presenting to my clinic in their 40’s and 50’s with very similar symptoms. Most women had multiple symptoms that had been developing over a few years and didn’t align with any particular diagnosis. Lab testing was usually “normal” for these women, but their quality of life had significantly declined. I had received no training on perimenopause (that term had never even been mentioned) and the little training I received on menopause treatment didn’t seem to fit. I felt under-prepared and under-trained to treat the women who had trusted me with their healthcare for the past several years. After spending several years looking towards the conventional medical societies for training and still finding nothing helpful, I turned towards a functional medicine approach. I recognized that I could support these women much better with hormone, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications. This root-cause approach was much more effective than the old way of prescribing a new pharmaceutical for every symptom that presented. After 20 years in OBGYN, I left conventional medicine and opened Wildflower Hormones. In this setting I am able to provide care that integrates the most current components of conventional medicine with the wholistic philosophies that have been around for centuries. This unique type of healthcare feels modern, effective, and personalized.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Wildflower Hormones opened in December 2024 and the schedule was full almost immediately. There is a huge menopause movement occurring in the community of midlife women. Women are recognizing that there are more science-based therapies to support perimenopause and menopause than what is being offered by conventional health providers. I’ve seen a huge shift in the past 20 years in women showing up educated and ready to advocate for their own health. The biggest challenge has been finding enough appointment times and knowledgeable providers to accommodate all the women seeking the type of healthcare they deserve.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a physician assistant with advanced training in functional menopause and perimenopause care and nutritional science. Leaving the large conventional medical group I was a part of for 20 years has given me the flexibility to treat patients based on the current scientific data and years of clinical experience instead of old outdated protocols. It’s this experience and advanced training that sets my practice apart from other clinics. I have incredible support from the providers in my community and am proud to receive referrals from specialists in primary care and OBGYN, as well as nontraditional providers such as acupuncturists and naturopaths. I value the relationships I have built between myself, the patients, and their entire care team. I feel honored to be the trusted expert in my community for perimenopause, menopause, and hormone care.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned to take every concern a woman describes to me seriously. My patients are knowledgeable, motivated, and BUSY. If someone has taken time out of her schedule to make an appointment to see me, the symptoms she is experiencing are significant to her. By the time I see a woman, it’s likely she has already researched her symptoms, attempted to improve them herself, and perhaps has even seen several other providers without relief. I have learned that women are tired of being gaslit and having their suffering normalized. It’s rewarding to partner with my patients to help them achieve their health goals. This practice philosophy developed over years of clinical practice.
