Today we’d like to introduce you to Ain’t From Here. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Founding members Jeremy Smith and Chris Solis were driving off-road tours in Estes Park and ended up passing a guitar back and forth around the fire on the evening tours. Both guys were dealing with grief after losing family members and decided to form a band and deal with that grief by playing music. Both being from Texas, country music was an obvious choice and the name came from being transplants as well.
We eventually moved down the mountain to the front range and, after a couple of lineup changes, acquired Braydon Peterson to play lead guitar and recorded our full-length, self-titled debut album. After a summer tour and a couple more lineup changes, we settled in with Daniel Pouse on bass, Brett Ross on drums, and Phil Broste on pedal steel, leaving Jeremy as the sole founding member.
We are now armed with 3 good singers and 3 good songwriters with different styles which makes for a very interesting sound. We are looking at 2023 to be a big year for us having released 2 new singles, a new album dropping in January, and another tour in March.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles have come in the lineup changes. You have to focus when you are bringing in new members and getting them up to speed. Then 2020 happened. It was a real struggle trying to keep a fairly new band relevant during a pandemic. Other than that, the only real struggle is our lack of experience in the music business and not knowing what we are doing, and not having a ton of money to accomplish the goals that require it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We just take a lot of pride in our perseverance. Despite everything, we have kept plugging away, writing new songs, trying to find exposure, and trying to perfect our sound. We call our style American Blue Dirt. It’s a mix of good ol’ Texas Honky Tonk, Oklahoma Red Dirt, and Colorado Bluegrass with a jam band sort of vibe mixed in here and there. We are probably most known for our 3 part harmonies and for writing good songs.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
The name fits. Our band members are from Texas, Kansas, Illinois, New Jersey, and Minnesota. We also have members of other bands like Chris Zink from WoodBelly and Peter Albrecht from Leadville Cherokee play with us pretty often so you never know who will be with us at our live shows.
