Conversations with Alex Creighton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Creighton.

Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We began as a music collective in February of 2021 formed from the ashes of a commercial music program called DIME Denver. After the school closed down, we wanted to continue the community we built so we started doing studio meet-ups and small livestreams. Eventually, we got an opportunity to book weekly shows at a local Denver Coffee shop called Stella’s. This caused us to form an LLC so they could contract us out.

After this things picked up. We began booking shows at lost lake, Your Mom’s House, Piante Pizzeria, and Mercury Cafe. To accommodate our growing shows and events we built a solid staff of 8 People.

Alex Creighton: Lead Executive (handles booking, press, and any organizations with venues and sponsors)

Ransom Tyson: Lead Administrator (handles artist communication, contracts, and internal communications)

Jack Terry: Creative Director (Makes show posters, manages creative team, Creates merch and branding guidelines)

Danny Acree: Social Media Manager (handles content and posting for Instagram)

Kodi Guy: Tik Tok Manager (Creates and posts for tiktok)

Davion Tomlinson: Promotion Manager (Helps artists promote, manages street team, get content from artists)

Serena Sims: Lead Video Editor (Edits promo videos for shows)

Emma Parker: Accountant (does books and manages show payout)

JJ Maestas: Head of Northern Colorado Booking (manages connections in NOCO and books shows in NOCO)

With this team, we are now able to do more ambitious shows like Organic Dystopia on December 4th, 2021 at Your Mom’s House. We are putting together a concept show that takes place in a post-apocalyptic forest world called Arbor. Each band represents a faction of the forest and has their own themed visuals and vibe to accommodate their set. We are also including tarot card reading, Poetry writing, and a giant color by numbers page. Each attraction has a lore card that explains the background of each of the factions in the forest.

This is where we are heading now, we are trying to create truly unique local concerts with elements unseen in any other local music showcases.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a rollercoaster of joy and struggle. When I began this company, I took on all the responsibility at first (Alex Creighton) and spent countless 20-hour days, The birth of this company began almost entirely in struggle. I almost completely sacrificed my health and free time for the first three months of the company’s existence until I was able to find help and delegate a lot of the workload. We have also run into issues with interpersonal disagreements that have led to some of the original partners being let go and friendships coming to an end. We have also seen artists on shows that have had assault rumors around them that we had to investigate. The music industry is full of surprises and challenges and we have felt the impact of those along the way. None of it has or will stop us.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Alex: I am a musician, and a workaholic, I am the most proud of the community my friends and I have built and everything I have survived so far to turn this company from an idea into reality.

Emma Parker: I specialize in accounting and my passion is to help entrepreneurs pursue their dreams and creative processes through supporting them with my skill set.

Ransom Tyson: Hello I’m Ransom, I am the lead administrator for Coastless Creatives. I specialize in communications between musical artists and the team, as well as set up any contracts and other important forms for our business. I’m really proud of our determination, we’ve organized a great team – all of whom love the idea of community and are willing to work to make it happen. I think that’s what sets us apart, too – we really want to focus on community and any artist we book we strive to care about the journey they make in music.

Serena Sims: I edit video content and promo for bands that we support in Coastless. Though only starting in late July of 2021 I’m proud to say that I consider Coastless part of my family.

Davion Tomlinson: I am the promotion manager for Coastless and a musician at heart. I specialize in reaching out to the community and building a strong base for local artists. My goal is to create a place where like-minded people can express themselves and have fun doing it.

Danny Acree: I am an artist first and foremost. For Coastless Creatives, I manage and create content. For me, music is therapy and I’m really happy that what we are doing is making a community from music. I think the music scene in Denver is something beautiful and I want to do anything I can to help build it.

Kodi Guy: I am an artist and a Coastless Influencer. I am proud of being a Colorado native and helping the local music community reach their goals. Not to mention giving these incredible artists a platform to be seen and heard is the best way I can think of giving back to the scene that raised me here in Denver.

Jack Terry: I’m a visual artist that specializes in abstract and naturalistic artwork. When it comes to Coastless I try to use my designs to empower the artists that we work with by giving them good marketing and promotional material. I also run all of our live visuals and take care of a part of the live experience when it comes to our shows.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
We do most of our work in our three-bedroom apartment at 2 am.
