Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Immerman.
Hi Andy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Wisconsin and went to school for sound and audio production at UC Denver, And graduated with a bachelor of science in music. When I was living in Wisconsin I worked on Bon Iver’s self-titled album which ended up winning two Grammys while I was still in school at UC Denver and I finished my degree and continue living in Denver. Now I’m freelancing audio production, graphic design, and DJing in Denver and releasing music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I moved to Denver from Wisconsin for the music scene and only knew two people that I went to high school with so I didn’t have an in for the local scene yet. I didn’t perform or get on stage for six years. So I started doing photography for shows at Cervantes and sub mission and I quickly realized that I had more work to do, to be at the level that I wanted to be at with my own music. Being at those shows and watching high-level professional musicians gave me the spark that I needed to realize my potential to execute my own work at the level that I knew I could achieve. I was in college at the time so I had to immerse myself as much as I could at the time in order to balance school work and future goals.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m first and foremost a producer, sound engineer, DJ, graphic artist and photographer. My parent’s artistic influence has allowed me to blossom into my current career. My dad is a general surgeon and a fused glass artist and my mom was a nurse turned graphic designer and they taught me so much of what I know. I’m proud of the lineage that I’m able to continue that my mother and father laid the groundwork for in order to let me be who I am today, and their support has been the catalyst in my career.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I have a DJ collective called Split Second that curates intimate shows in Denver and our vision aligns with gassing up local talent that we know deserve time in the spotlight. I’m open to collaborating on all levels, I’ve worked on a multitude of different genres and worked with artists like Sunsquabi, Maddy O’Neal on the graphic end but I’ve also worked as a backline technician at red rocks with world-renowned artists setting up their gear and doing technical work for them on stage. The best way to support me is to see me live and listen to my music.
