Conversations with Angelica Urstadt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Urstadt.

Hi Angelica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2017, when I first was interested in nails I was actually working and going to school full time at Metro State University. The idea of doing nails started as a hobby, not only was I going to school for something else but I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do with my life. I’m so interested in trying and learning new things, from teaching to business to personal training (at the time), it’s hard for me to decide on one thing to love forever. When I became more interested in doing nails, I would watch a ton of YouTube videos to gain knowledge on designs, application, safety and just try and soak up all the things I can learn to actually be able to create it in real life. My friends and family would let me practice on them and eventually I was doing everyone’s nails. Down the line in 2021, I got laid off from a corporate job and even though it was a stressful time, it really was a blessing from God steering me to actually do something I love. I went to Pickens Tech College and completed the Nail Tech program and got my license. This was always a goal of mine because I wanted to be a well known, professional. I also had the honor of competing in a state and national competition when I finished school and actually won 1st in the state and 2nd place in the nation. Since then I’ve built my own business being a licensed nail tech who provides beautiful and safe services to women all around Colorado. I dedicate my time to really ensure that I can give my clients what they desire! Being fully booked every month and having the support of all my clients fitting me into their budget reminds me that a dream that I had, I’m actually living and am super blessed. I truly thank God for it all! I can’t wait to expand into a storefront, give Denver / Aurora a unique space to have great self care days and support other inspiring nail techs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a bumpy road! From being self taught nail tech who received hate from the internet, learning techniques that were hard to master, becoming allergic to products and really understanding what it means to create your own business was a lot to wrap my mind around. It’s like you don’t know how to learn how to swim until you jump into the water and start trying.

You’re the one in every aspect of the business so you have to become a multi purpose woman! My hustle has always been A+ so gracefully I was able to manage and never quit.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed Nail Technician, Be Jelly Nails. I have been doing nails for 8 years.

I specialize in natural nail care while using soft and hard gel to add structure to help your natural nails grow to a length you haven’t seen your nails at before if desired.

I love creating different designs that have my clients coming back to push me to do even better and more intricate art.

I am most proud of the faces I see on my clients when they truly love their nails. I always wanted to give my clients exactly what they want because when I used to go to the nail shops around town, it really wasn’t ever what I wanted and unfortunately not done well.

What sets me apart is that I really pay attention to detail and I’m someone who shows you the process from start to finish ensuring communication is clear so we can both make the most out of our time together. I also play the best movies, so I’ve heard lol.

How do you think about happiness?
I get satisfaction after every client I service. The interaction of being close and personal with someone, talking and sharing stories, is the environment I love to create and have around me. On top of that, I create tiny artwork that has to be completed after I start so when it’s done and the client loves it, I’m happy!
