Conversations with Ava Ticotin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ava Ticotin.

Ava Ticotin

Hi Ava, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had a love for design, but growing up in Calabasas California I started working in the film industry instead. This took me all over the world and allowed me to meet people from different walks of life.

However, when Covid hit, I discovered it didn’t bring me the happiness it once did. Between that, the ever-stunning nature of the area I grew up in, and my life experience as a creative type I was inspired and decided it was time to follow my heart and go to design school. Now, here I am!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly yes! I’m a firm believer that when things are supposed to happen…they just do!

That’s not to say there haven’t been learning moments along the way. But to me, all of those just enrich the design experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I pull inspiration for my designs from the world around me. My motto is, “elevating nature, art, and elegance within a space” I say this because I believe nature and the outside world are so beautiful it should be brought into the home. I also believe everyone is their person and their space should reflect that.

It should tell the story of who you are, what you like, and what you want to become. Basically to be an extension of you. We spend so much time in our homes that I believe they should feel like not just a home, but YOUR home tailor-made to you. And finally elegance, the subtle art of finer things I believe should be accessible to everyone.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Put yourself out there! Ask the questions, and be a sponge.

Design is such an interpersonal experience, that you shouldn’t be afraid to connect to people around you.

We all start somewhere, and we all want the same thing; to create beautiful spaces.
