Conversations with Big M@k

Today we’d like to introduce you to Big M@k. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Big M@k, (22) was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1999. At age 2, he moved to Colorado Springs. Big M@k, was no stranger to music, writing music since he was 9 years old, he hit his first studio with Lethal Productions in 2009. Although he is no longer with the company, Big M@k, has grown to start his career in music INDEPENDENTLY, opening his own record label in 2018, InkyEyed Productions. Since 2018 Big M@k has opened for big names such as: ¡MAYDAY!, King Iso, Twisted Insane, Black Pegasus, Stevie Stone, Joey Cool, Rittz, Tech N9ne AND MANY MANY MORE. Big M@k has landed successful features with Black Pegasus, Stevie Stone & Local up-and-coming artist, Troy Good. Recently Big M@k released his debut album “Covid Chronicles Vol. 1” in Big M@k’s words, “The stepping stone for my career is really all thanks to Black Pegasus, everyone on the Mount Olympus Studio team, especially my dog MixedByBlitz. The sound that came from my first recording session blew me away, I never knew I could sound like that, but with everything that was going on in my life I needed to vent, I do that with the mic now, and I think that was the difference that really set motion to my career in music.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it was really tough getting booked for a show. By the time you had gotten to the promoters with music you’re ready to perform, the shows were usually booked. It was very discouraging for someone who didn’t even have a little buzz yet, so I started at house parties. Began to create the buzz I was looking for, then BOOM! My music was streaming, I was rushing to keep the momentum up without a plan and decided to expand my brand. In doing so, the team I had originally put together left us to create their own brand, taking EVERYTHING, we had previously built together for themselves. Starting from scratch after thousands in investments and no investor behind you is a struggle, but I definitely realized that you need to remain humble to survive. That’s where Black Pegasus and everyone apart of the BKG team (Brass Knuckle Gang Promotions) helped me out. If it wasn’t for that team my career would’ve ended in music three years ago. Instead, we grew and we went from house parties to big-name openings, then the struggle was finding someone who believed in this dream as much as I do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist. Not just a rapper, but someone who can create a unique sound that relates to many in different ways. I specialize in storytelling, and with each one of my songs, I can guarantee you will be painted a different picture each time. I’m not someone who’s just here for the money, I’m here because I love what I do. I love jumping on the stage and seeing all those beautiful faces smiling back at me, having complete control of a room with nothing but good vibes, it’s an incomparable feeling. It goes beyond that for me though, music is an escape for me, it’s a constant trial and error, you only wanna be better than that last song you put out. It’s a competition with yourself. If you’re not learning from what you’re doing then you might wanna rethink your steps and try again. This feeling I get goes all the way to the studio for me, from writing the track to finding or making the beat, to mixing the final master and seeing that look on my producers’ face. We’re building a team of ELITES. What sets us apart, is our ability to never give up on what we love. Continuing to strive to be the greatest we can be.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing people find surprising about me, I have Colorado tattooed on my body 3 times and most think I was born here, but I’m not, I’m from Kansas City, MO.!
