Conversations with Bill Plock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Plock.

Bill, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I became a spin class instructor at the Arvada YMCA. in 2007. From there, most everything in my life today can be traced to that decision. I fell in love with teaching and helping others acheive their goals while drastically improving my cycling fitness. I became interested in triathlons and joined a team and became coached by Carmichael Training Systems in Colorado Springs. At the same time I wanted an outlet for my interest in writing and starting writing for 303triathlon.com. I became very visible in the triathlon community and did 8 Ironmans in 9 years. I wrote stories, interviewed countless pro triathletes and covered world championships in Kona and St. George. Through a series of events 303triathlon and its sister site, 303cycling.com became available to buy, so I went for it. I merged them into 303Endurance.

Fast forward a few years, and having entrenched myself into the cycling and triathlon communities, Ride The Rockies was going through big changes and desperately needed someone to run the ride. With less than two months to prepare I was chosen to lead this massive event–amazing since I had no experience doing that. The ride went relatively well and I learn A LOT about putting on a bike tour. So much so that it led me to partner with a friend in that space and create Colorado’s Ride–a 5-day bike tour in Durango.

Ride the Rockies has since gone out of business and our ride is in its third year. We created a more sustainable model with easier logistics, less moving for the rider, and an equally stunning cycling experience in the San Juan mountains. www.coloradosride.com

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles are risk and taking on running my own business in the prime earning years of my life while maintaining a financial position that allows me to support my daughter in college and pay everyday bills

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known as a storyteller. Whether it’s written on my websites or now on substack, or through my YouTube channel (303) or my 7 years on a podcast, 303 Endurance Podcast. We recorded every single Friday, over 400 episodes. What makes me unique is how I see things, express myself and show up authentically

How do you define success?
by having great friends and connections who support your dreams and help make them happen and vice versa
