Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandilea Adams.
Hi Brandilea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved doing everyone’s hair. I have been the one putting foils in my friend’s hair since I was a sophomore in high school. After going through pretty much every job you could ever imagine. I finally decided to take the plunge and go to school for it. It was about time to make some money doing what I love. After trying out two salons, I knew working for someone else wasn’t going to do the trick. I needed to work for myself. I opened up my own small salon. I specialize in blondes and Invisible Bead Extensions, helping woman who have never had long hair, thick hair or new thinning hair, giving them their dream hair is a magical moment to be a part of. I have found something that truly makes me happy. Seeing the confidence I can help create in woman has been a dream come true. I personally have struggled with my own hair growth issues for years because of health issues. So I know the struggles and the relief once you see yourself in the mirror with all your new hair installed. Doing what I love somewhat turned me into a workaholic, and I’m okay with that!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The furthest from a smooth road. Financially I think starting a business on your own is hard. And plus the beauty industry is very cutthroat. The school I went to really talked you down on succeeding as a hairstylist also. Told you “ you’ll never make a viable income”, “ don’t quit your day job “. Many more things to ruin your confidence. I also have many medical issues, to where I wasn’t able to work for periods of time. Juggling health, clients, family, COVID and finances has been nothing short of overwhelming at times. But I’ll never give up or stop working.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist and owner of Axis Salon. I am known for my Extensions and Blonding work. Also probably my sense of humor and lack of ability to take anything seriously! I am most proud of my IBE extensions. I have been focusing on those recently and growing my business in that direction and it has really taken off faster than expected. I love teaching newer stylists also, it’s so hard for them once they are out on their own. I love helping when I can, and teaching them what I know. Helping others grow their business is just something I love to do.
What makes you happy?
Seeing other people happy. Watching other people bloom. Helping my stylists build her business. Seeing my clients fall in love with their hair. The before and after TikTok! If you ask my husband I just need coffee tho… with like a lot of espresso!
