Conversations with Brittany Hopkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hopkins.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m originally from Texas. Went to school outside of St. Louis. Danced professionally with some companies in Chicago. Taught dance and yoga at a college prep boarding school in central Utah, where we built a straw bale house and drove a car that ran on waste vegetable oil. From there we move to Beijing, China where I taught dance and yoga at an international school. Moved to Denver in August of 2014. Started with free yoga in parks around Denver.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a small business owner has required a resilience I didn’t know in other work scenarios prior to opening a yoga studio. Covid has definitely been the biggest struggle of them all. It’s been challenging to keep our community together and to keep everyone healthy and safe at the same time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was a professional dancer and dance instructor prior to jumping both feet into the yoga world. I danced with companies in Chicago, Utah, Colorado, and Beijing. I taught dance in private dance studios in all of those place and at two different international college prep boarding schools. I received a ticket to Vegas on the show So You Think You Can Dance in 2008. My last professional performance was when I was at the age of 37 when I pregnant with my now 3.5-year-old child.

After about 6 months of bouncing around to teach yoga, I found into our brick-and-mortar yoga studio home in Lakewood. We were in that space for seven years offering yoga classes, workshops, and yoga teacher trainings. I also lead yoga retreats (local in Colorado and internationally to Nepal and Costa Rica).

When Covid hit, we moved online and tried diligently to be in person again for a year. Finally I sold the building in October 2021 and moved the biz all online while partnering with other businesses to use their spaces for in-person popup yoga classes, workshops, and retreats.

Now our community is still very local, but because we are online, we also have members and teachers across the country now.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m excited to see how the yoga world evolves out of Covid times. I love that we now that we are online, we are not restricted to a particular location. We have community members and instructors across the country. I now have a yoga video library of 200+ classes. And am able to lead yoga teacher trainings live online as well. The focus will stay on those things and include a lot more yoga retreats. Including the one coming up the first weekend of February here in Denverhttps://www.cc360denver.com/modern-sanctuary-yoga-retreat.html

Pricing:

  • $12.50/week for unlimited online yoga classes and video library access
  • $295 for the upcoming 2.5 retreat in Denver
