Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Redding.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My love for photography started as a little kid. My grandfather had beautiful film images he had taken and framed on his wall. All of the photos had a name of each grandchild on the back. We all received one of his photos with our names on the back when he died. As I got older my mom would always buy me disposable cameras and I remember the excitement I felt as I waited for them to get developed. I took a lot of film classes in high school and one class to end my undergraduate degree. Many went years went buy. I worked serving jobs, I was a nanny. I got my master’s degree in counseling. I was a counselor at a youth home with kids who have experienced trauma and a suicide crisis clinician here in Denver. I loved my job working with and helping people but my passion has always been found in photography. Three years ago, I bought my first digital camera and started my own photography company.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say the road has been mostly smooth with a few bumps on the way. As a photographer, you have to find your style. Creating images that feel like you. That has taken a while for me to find my style and that’s still evolving. I think that always will. Life is changing constantly and so am I as a person. I have loved the journey of getting to where I am now, but I constantly want to learn and grow so my photos can grow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and family photographer. I also work on brand photography. Mostly with a whiskey distillery and other liqueur companies. I’m most proud of building this business from scratch while also working my other dog hiking company I created that has been more than a full-time job for me. What sets me apart is my style and how I approach my shoots. I want them to feel organic while also getting those more editorial looks with the couples that I work with.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Photography makes me happy. More specifically, film photography. Over the past year and a half, I have been getting back to my roots in film photography. I have been trying out different types of cameras (35mm, medium format, large format). My goal this year is to learn tintype photography and offer tintype sessions to my clients.
