Conversations with Calvary Chapel Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvary Chapel Parker.

Hi Calvary Chapel Parker, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Calvary Chapel Parker is a church in Parker, CO that was established 23 years ago. California-native Pastor Jason Van Divier and his wife, Cathy, moved to Colorado to found Calvary Chapel Parker in 2002, with the goal of establishing a church in the Parker community that would teach through the entire Bible verse-by-verse.

Our church began as an at-home Bible study and expanded over the years, with God providing a venue for us at each step of the way: first, a community room in a fire station; then, the local rec center; and then, a local high school. In 2011, we moved to a building just outside of Parker’s town center, and we have met there ever since.

In all we do, our goal is to know God and to make Him known by sharing the Gospel message: That without Jesus Christ, each person is trapped in their sins and will ultimately be held accountable for their actions; but Jesus came to the world and died on the cross to save us from our sins, so that all who put their trust in Him will be rescued from the punishment for their sins and will live in eternity with God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout the challenges that have come along with the church’s ministry, God has always been faithful to provide whatever the church needed. For instance, the COVID-19 pandemic was a difficult time for the church, as it was uncertain how we would reach the congregation with continued teachings and a sense of togetherness while stay-at-home orders were active. During this time, our pastor worked with the head of our Audio/Video ministry to set up livestreaming operations, which allowed the pastor to reach the congregation virtually with live messages on Sundays and Wednesdays. To this day, we continue to livestream our services (which have returned to being held in-person), and our reach has become even greater than before, with individuals in cities across the nation tuning into our services!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In addition to holding weekly services on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, we offer a Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Children’s & Youth Ministry, Young Adults Ministry, and 50+ Ministry. We also have been blessed with the resources to support local and international ministries, both financially and through prayer. Locally, we support and send volunteers to assist Open Door Ministries, an organization that reaches the homeless in downtown Denver with the Gospel message while also supporting with housing, employment, and more. Additionally, we support missionaries who are sharing the Gospel in countries across the world including Italy, Nepal, Israel, Syria, South Sudan, and others.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The best thing about Parker is the people; we have a wonderful community of people who attend our church, some of whom have attended since the very beginning 23 years ago. Nothing comes to mind as to what we like least about the city.
