Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste.
Hi Celeste, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a content creator for over ten years. I started as a YouTuber with Let’s Play content before moving into professional cosplaying. During this time I was also a writer for a video game company. Due to being chronically-ill and disabled I had to retire from professional cosplaying and moved on from writing. I continued to make content but on a smaller scale. In 2021 I learned about VTubing (Virtual YouTubing or Virtual Streaming) and got my start with VTubing officially in 2023.
In my VTubing journey I have accomplished many things such as becoming a Partner on the streaming site Twitch, raised money for charity and also was a speaker for a local program known as Asian Girls Ignite telling my story as a content creator. I also became a mentor in their high school mentorship program. VTubing, while not a mainstream form of streaming yet, has given me an outlet to be able to work and make connections that I normally wouldn’t be able to due to my health conditions. Through my VTubing I have also been able to also work as a professional tarot reader and my experiences as a Shinto priestess-in-training. I’m currently working up my platform to become bigger so create a more interactive experience for my audience by bringing my VTuber persona from just an online experience to an offline one.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a road with twists and turns and a few bumps along the way! VTubing is like any other form of streaming content online. You may be an animated avatar that you control, but the person behind it is a very real person. You have to be an entertainer and keep a professional persona even when things are difficult in your real life. It can also be very difficult separating work and life. You’re basically married to the job of wanting and needing to create at all times to keep up with the ever changing social media platforms.
I can say that it has taught the lesson that hard work isn’t the only thing that will take you places. You need to be consistent and make strong connections with others in the industry to really find your place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
CelesteSeelie is an interactive story of the Goddess of Multiverse Memories. I, the persona of Celeste, stream almost daily on Twitch, but also create content on social media and am working on various projects (music, charity, collaborations, etc.) with other individuals and organizations. I also am in the process of creating the story of Celeste in a physical, novel form. Through all of this as well, I am a professional tarot reader and Shinto priestess-in-training as mentioned previously. I use these experiences and knowledge to help create the world of Celeste. I want Celeste to be more than just a virtual streamer, but an existence outside of the internet where virtual reality meets reality.
I’m truly proud of the community I have cultivated, bringing together viewers from all over the world who not only support me, but support each other. What sets my community and I apart I believe is the realness I choose to give to my audience. I choose to be myself and share my own life experiences through streaming, which has helped other people learn to be themselves as well.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel the qualities and characteristics that are most important to my success are truly my stubbornness. I refuse to give up. Even when things are difficult I will keep trying. I believe my stubbornness is a resiliency that has carried me through a lot and led to many of my achievements. I also believe my authenticity has contributed to my success. By being myself and letting myself be honest with the community I’ve built has led to many wonderful things.
