Conversations with Chelsey Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Ray.

Hi Chelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m Chelsey! I love dogs, movies, and playing music in my spare time. I’ve always had a love for creating. I got my BFA degree in photography back in 2018 and then I got started making crystal jewelry after a box of old jewelry items flew off the top of my closet.

What’s funny about this is that I had just started my spiritual journey and felt it was spirit telling me to start creating jewelry after struggling with my photography business after Covid. I also couldn’t find the style of jewelry I saw in my head so decided to make it myself!

Well turns out people ended up connecting with what I made and it kind of blew up in just 6 months and that’s how Earth Fragments was born. I always use authentic crystals and strive to create something I’ve never seen before.

I also do photography for brands, editorial, and models, as well as my own jewelry business, and love to collaborate with other like-minded creatives.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started back in my hometown in Alabama 4 years ago, things were much smoother since the cost of living there was so much cheaper. But I was also living in the South so that was a downside for me as well lol.

I think the biggest challenge has just been navigating through inflation/the cost of living here in Denver. Had to get both my hustles going with jewelry and photography, but I’m making it work because I’m probably one of the hardest workers you’ll meet.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I design jewelry with energy in mind. Almost everything I make comes from my brain intuitively and all my pieces have some sort of intention, whether it’s bringing more confidence, helping the feminine power emerge, or helping with anxiety and protection.

If I don’t feel it, I can’t make it. I feel like I’m most known for how extravagant my pieces are. As far as what I’m most proud of, my portal necklaces are probably up the top. I designed a series of necklaces that look almost like a solar system that can be spun to help with negative energy and anxiety. Those I’m very proud of.

What makes you happy?
It always warms my heart to see the reactions I get from people when I show them what my portal necklaces can do. It makes me feel good that I can make someone’s mouth drop just with the pieces I create.
