Conversations with Chris Felton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Felton.

Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Loveland Colorado, went to CSU, and moved to Denver in 1993. I was a CPA for a large firm and then left in 1999 to start my own financial services business. I went from the safety of being an employee to the uncertainty of being an entrepreneur. I faced significant challenges that mainly related to me!!! I was married and then divorced in 2005.

My two little boys moved with their Mom the Atlanta GA. I met my second and last wife Marlow and she stepped into a significant financial mess created by me!! I was extremely stuck and with my back against the wall, I went all in on growing and changing myself. It didn’t happen overnight but it happened over time. We had a miraculous financial transformation and from that, we wrote out book Couples Money.

Also from the changes and shifts that have happened in the last decade-plus, I decided to write my new book. Think & Grow You, how to get out of your way and level up your life. Designed to help people, get unstuck and have a better life. I share my mistakes, failures, and problems that lead to the strategies, concepts, and tactics that completely turned my life around.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all smooth. My biggest struggle was wanting to stay the same and insisting the world change. Playing victim and blaming the outside for my issues. The outside/in approach to life doesn’t work very well. I was the common denominator to all my problems or as I like to say, “wherever I had a problem I was always there.” The person that had to change was me.

So, I had to go all in with my personal growth and development. It didn’t work overnight but it worked over time as author Mel Robbins likes to say. Eventually, the outside world started matching my internal changes. “The world is a mirror and gives you feedback for what you’re putting out. The only way to get unstuck is to – Be Willing to Change, do the work, but realize that the work is worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My new book, Think & Grow You, How to get out of your way and level up your life is launching on 3/25/23. I’ve been writing it for the last year. It is my story of how I got unstuck in many areas of my life. I share the pain, failures, and struggles that eventually led to the breakthroughs, strategies, and tactics that transformed my life.

I’m super excited about it and how it will help many get out of their way and level up their lives. My prayer is it’s a continued resource that people can continue to reference to make the necessary shifts when they hit a wall. I’m also excited to launch my new keynote and series of workshops to help others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m very much driven by my spiritual life. I’m not sure if I would call it luck, but I believe that when you take the gifts that God has given you and do your best to maximize them, good things happen to you. I believe it’s a co-creation process that starts with a desire followed by action and constant course correction. Praying like it’s up to God but working like it’s up to you is a quote that I love. Faith is an action word. While you pray, move your feet.
