Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Tombrella
Hi Chris , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in filmmaking. I was in my mid twenties when I read an article about how a camera works and it stuck with me. After that, I would go to Best Buy everyday and play with all the display cameras there, just trying to learn everything I could about them. My parents helped me purchase my first camera 10 years ago. I started by taking photos of flowers and my dog, Lizzie. My very first photo shoot was a coworkers family photo shoot in their backyard, and from there I built my business as a photographer. I now specialize in wedding and elopement photography, but I’ve also done editorial work as well. Honestly it feels surreal to be in this position, and there’s been so many notable people along the way that I can’t even begin to thank for where I am.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s mostly been a smooth road. I never thought I would be a full time photographer, and the biggest struggle in the beginning was totally committing to something I didn’t feel like a professional at. As I was transitioning into full time photography, I was still working my full time retail job, and balancing the two was hard.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer who specializes in natural, documentary-style photography. I like to let my photos breathe without any concrete direction. I’m known for my upbeat, high energy and pride myself on helping couples have fun and feel comfortable in front of the camera. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built through the people I’ve met doing photography. Whether it be the other vendors I’ve worked with or all of the clients I’ve photographed. What sets me apart from others is that I have so much empathy and compassion for my clients in front of the camera because I myself don’t like having my photo taken! I get it, I don’t know what to do with my hands either!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I run two photography experiences on Airbnb, one at Union Station in Denver and one at Loveland Pass in Keystone, Colorado.
