Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Ifurung.

Christina Ifurung

Hi Christina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My entire story has been ancestral/spirit lead and a result of what happens when you listen to the ways the Universe is prompting you to move forward to lean into trust. Guiding people has always been a part of my life. Since I was young my friends would always lean into me with their deepest and darkest secrets in search of guidance. Fast forward to today, I found my trade in Western medicine healing on hospital floors as a NICU Nurse. From there the spirit was always nudging me for more and I continued to give my support to others going through hard times.

After I started my spiritual life coaching business, I had a dream with my grandmother in her vegetable and rose garden. She spoke to me in the dream about energy, life, and the way everything revolves around nature. When we listen, it speaks to us in so many ways. That morning I woke up with this sudden urge to purchase a sound bowl. I have never played an instrument nor would I consider myself a musician, but that morning it was strong. I expressed this to my boyfriend at the time (who is now my husband) and he took note of it and surprised me with my first sound bowl. I remember strumming the bowl for the first time and it did something to my soul and my body that drew me in. I knew at that moment it was bigger than me.

Later that month I decided to go all in on a set. Not having the funds, I charged, and when the set arrived. One of the bowls was broken. I thought, “OMG is this a sign that I shouldn’t be doing this?” haha in the doubt, I still reached out to get the bowl replaced. After going back and forth with the manufacturer and the distributor about replacement, I found out they were not able to replace the single bowl that was broken. Instead, they allowed me to keep the bowls I had because of the glass hazard to ship back AND they refunded me the WHOLE SET! What’s even crazier, is the bowl that broke happened to be the first bowl my husband had bought me which was the… HEART CHAKRA BOWL!

This is how Kapwa Healing was born!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the challenges were not from the expansion of the business itself for I had an idea going into it that I would move in an organic way of flow not force. I was still working as a nurse so I had the opportunity to work there as a main source of income as I built my business.

The real challenge was not found in the external but in the internal myself. This calling came to me at a time when I was going through a deep transition in my life. I was a single mother to a 3-year-old at the time, out of an almost 10-year marriage, starting new relationships, and learning who I was.

The shedding of who I was me facing the shadows of how I have walked in ways outside of values and understanding what those were. As a healing practitioner, I truly believe that you cannot step into those walls with others to guide you unless you know yourself in all your humanness. I spent so many nights and days struggling emotionally battling the constant narratives of “Am I enough?”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think it’s hard to place titles on someone that doesn’t necessarily fit in the box of a “title”. I’ve learned that each person carries their own unique medicine and when you learn how to support others through your gifts there isn’t a real way to title all you do within ONE name.

The closest thing I could describe myself as is an Energy Medicine Practitioner with a focus on Sound and Ancestry. When you “Google” me you’ll find me categorized under reiki practitioner, sound healer, and energy medicine. However, what I do is a combo of all those things in my way that the Spirit leads me to. I believe the two steps to our fullest we must re-discover and re-member who we are by identifying parts of ourselves we have forgotten being influenced by an outer world. Playing with sound medicine helps us drop into the spirit and be led without expectation and without the need to ingest plant medicine. You can have a similar experience of opening the mind, heart, and body by simply sitting and being with sound.

At Kapwa, we also honor the Land and our ancestors. Whether you know your lineage of descent or not, it’s important in my practice to bring light to who they are because without them we would not exist. This is one thing I am most proud of. I do my best to learn from elders in my community who preserve this tradition and walk in an honorable and good way.

What separates me from others is the unique way I use different tools I’ve learned in my lifetime thus far to help lead others back to themselves. I always treat each session as an honor because the amount of trust people put into our session as a “stranger” is not something I take lightly.

What do you think about happiness?
When it comes to external things, my family brings me the most joy in my life. The simplicity of being on the couch watching a show or movie that my son picks out is my absolute favorite.

One of my favorite parts of the day is putting my son to bed at night. We talk about our highs and lows of the day, end with singing songs, and fall asleep together. I enjoy dating my husband and eating delicious food together.

Internally, what makes me happy is connection. When I am in connection with nature, the water, my ancestors, sound, people, etc. I feel my cells dancing and expanding.
