Conversations with Christopher Anaya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Anaya.

Hi Christopher, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
While trying to figure out what I wanted to pursue in college, jumping from major to major, I decided to pick up a beginner’s camera to begin shooting not only for myself but for my friends who at the time were in a rap group together. Being in this music group, it was a no-brainer to pick up a camera and provide content for us. I started out shooting small concerts that we would throw together, which later turned into music videos for various artists throughout the city. These were the early days, about 6 years ago. As my journey continued, I began to get offers to shoot for bigger artist and businesses, which took up a lot of my time from studying. I eventually pulled out of college to pursue my craft of a photo/video creator full time. In 2019, after shooting all across the nation, from concert festivals to music videos and photoshoots, I realized I needed to brand myself correctly, for which I then came up with my own production company, “Bananaclip”. The idea of the name came from a song I was listening to by A$AP Rocky, where he says the word bananaclip. This became the eureka moment for me as I began to flood my mind with ideas for what I wanted to create. Our mission statement became ” when life gives you a full clip, use every last bullet”. The idea is to give it your all in whatever you’re doing in life. To lay it all on the line before you leave this place. As of today, Bananaclip is a production company located in Denver, Colorado. We offer various production needs when it comes to a business or artist who needs video or photography services. We also have our very own white wall studio, in which we use to create content and rent out to other creators and businesses for very affordable prices. We’re super grateful that our company has become home to many here in Denver as we look forward to pushing our creatives and culture further.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Being an entrepreneur there’s always going to be struggles and obstacles that fall into one’s path. Especially as a creative artist, self-doubt can be the biggest struggle sometimes. If you can dig deep and begin to believe in yourself, many of these problems just become the next thing to becoming who you’re meant to be. I had these very same struggles, but the more I put my head down and just created, the more I fell in love with who I am and what I wanted to do. It was all the motivation I needed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve been shooting for the past 6 years, more so professionally for the last 3. Personally, I’m always going back and forth between photography or videography and which one I like to do more. I specialize in working with artists more than I do with businesses. I find that I can be more creative and open-minded when it come to this side of the business. Most of my early career I was out shooting concert festivals, which was some of the best times I’ve had shooting. My most proud moment so far is creating my company “Bananaclip” and pushing it to where it is today. Truly grateful to be doing what I’m doing. Overall, I think what separates me from others is the ability to create on the spot with various types of photo/video work. This versatility has allowed me to venture out into almost any space and work with some amazing people.
