Today we’d like to introduce you to Corbin Spring.
Hi Corbin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So i have had a love for art at a very young age. I have been drawing and painting since elementary school. As i progressed through school i took every opportunity to take any art class i could. when i reached high school i decided to major in art and ended up going to college (University of Texas San Antonio) with a concentration in painting and ceramics. I made lots of art work through college and was already showing in galleries by the time i graduated. Once i graduated i did gallery life for about 2 years. I made work and sold work during that time but it didnt feel sustainable and i wasnt interested in living that life. So i ended up going back school to the University of Houston for graphic design. This is when my spark for photography and videography started. Often time you work with imagery along side graphic design and i quickly relised how this could go hand in hand.
I had several jobs once i graduated. I worked for a tech company designing app interfaces. Then i worked for a environmental design company where i designed and built natural science museums. During all these jobs i was always freelancing and always wanted to have my own company. I eventually built my freelance graphic design clients up enough to quit my job and do it full time. While working with my clients i would encounter terrible stock photography and terrible video that when adding my graphics to made my stuff look worse. So i started shooting my own photo and video for clients and they loved it and started paying for it.
When i realized how much fun i was having doing photo and video work i quickly shifted gears and went all in to learn as much as possible. I had taken several photo and video classes in school but never focused to hard on it. I was living in Austin texas at the time and have always had a love for the outdoors so i started targeting outdoor adventure brands to shoot for. My love for the outdoors brought me to Colorado, i vacationed here through out my life and could never get enough.
I eventually completely shifted to doing photo and video work as my job and have never looked back. This is my 10th year shooting full time with a concentration in outdoor adventure and offroad brands and i couldnt see myself doing anything else!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building anything on your own is always a struggle lol! I have always been a very independent person and love learning new things all the time. Im the type of guy who throws the instructions away and figures things out myself and always have been. Tell me i cant do something and ill figure away to do it. But i also love to process and thats one reason i think ive been successful.
Finding good, reliable, consistent clients is definitely difficult and i still struggle with it today. Im constantly learning and growing and adapting to new situations. You pick and choose a lot of your problems in life and these are the set of problems i choose to deal with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
SO my name is Corbin Spring and im the owner/founder of Bearded Bros Media. We are a photography and videography company out of Colorado specializing in shooting outdoor adventure and offroad brands and stories.
We have a love for the outdoors specifically flyfishing, camping, motorcycles and offroading and most of our shoots center around one of these things. We are known for our clean vibrant images, unique perspectives and attention to details. Our work is very authentic and real and invovles using people who are actually skilled and knowledgable in the activity.
I bring alot of my knowledge of color theory, framing and conceptualizing ideas from my art background and apply it to my photo and video work. Having so many year of different creative jobs and skills under my belt has definitely contributed to my success in this industry. I also love the things i shoot. ive been lucky to build a career and for the most part create around my passions and i think its reflected in my work. When people love what they do the end result is so much better.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
lol hard question:
The thing that matters the most to me is that i love what i do. This is a very short life and we never know when it will end. I think alot of people these days forget that and think if they can just get there or make this much or have that thing they will be happy. So they suffer and suck it up and do lots of things they dont want to do and may never actually find that happiness.
Being happy is a mind set. Ive always followed my passions and worked really hard to build them into something i can make a living doing. Its not easy and it has its sacrifices but my passion continues to feed to my goals.
