Conversations with Corey Hawke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Hawke.

Hi Corey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like many people, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do after graduating college. At the time, I was working on an ambulance as an EMT for American Medical Response. I loved the opportunity to help those who couldn’t help themselves.

That foundation ultimately led me into pediatric home health, where I’ve spent the last 23 years. As my career progressed, I was fortunate to serve as Director, Vice President, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer, gaining invaluable experience building and scaling healthcare organizations.

Over time, however, I found myself increasingly removed from what initially drew me to the field. This shift became even more pronounced with the entrance of private equity ownership. The passion and fulfillment I once felt for the work gradually eroded as the business of healthcare began to overshadow its purpose.

That realization ultimately led me back to my roots and inspired the launch of Colorado Kids Home Care, an organization built around one simple belief: families and children come first. Our team is committed to making home care feel less overwhelming and more supportive from day one.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenges of starting a business are many, but for me, the greatest hurdle was taking that first step and fully committing. Once you do, your deepest fears and insecurities surface, and your resolve is truly tested.

My professional career had become familiar and predictable. I was working well within my comfort zone. But as a startup founder, you wear every hat, and you’re rarely in a position to hire experts early on. That means constant learning, problem-solving in real time, and piecing together solutions as you go. It can be arduous and, at times, lonely. Still, those small wins build momentum and confidence.

Taking that leap of faith and betting on myself came with real trepidation. As a 48-year-old married father of three and the primary breadwinner, the weight of responsibility was heavy. That pressure brought anxiety, but also motivation as I risked security in the hope of building something better.. You trade one set of worries as an employee for an entirely new set as an employer. The weight is different…often heavier, more personal., more constant, but in the end, we’re more likely to regret the chances we didn’t take.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
