Conversations with Courtney Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Miller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have loved all things beauty since I was three years old! I was 19 years old when I decided I wanted to go to cosmetology school, but destiny had other plans for me! I found out I was pregnant with my son, Anthony! So my ‘dream career’ had to be postponed. I worked in tanning salons and also a Harley Dealership. I was a single mom so I accepted the fact that I wouldn’t be able to go to school.

In 2016, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter Charlotte, I continued working at the Harley Dealership and was unfortunately let go when I was around eight months pregnant. In complete devastation, I went to my father and we had a conversation about the kids and I’s future and he fully supported me in enrolling in beauty school! I started school when Charlotte was 16 days old! Beauty school was 18 months long, however, I had an injury and my graduation was postponed due to having several surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay! Finally, in March of 2018 I graduated from Aveda Institute Denver and Mile High Hair Company was formed!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our journey has been anything but easy! There have definitely been several trials and tribulations along the way. My kids are 100% my why, however, being a single mom of two has its own world of challenges! Trying to balance business and family is definitely challenging. I am super thankful because the industry that I am in has taken off some pressure and allows me to have scheduling freedom. The pandemic had a huge impact on my business and family, having to shut down then re-open and secure childcare was trying in every way! Thanks to my wonderful community and support system, we were able to push through and rise!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Mile High Hair Company, our main focus is luxury hair extensions and custom color! I first got into hair extensions when I was struggling with my own postpartum hair loss and was constantly searching for the best methods to fix my own hair, from there I discovered Handtied Extensions and was instantly obsessed! I spend a lot of time traveling and investing in my education to elevate my craft! I love empowering women thru hair, it truly is so much more than just hair! To see women leaving my salon feeling their best both inside and out is so magical.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Music fuels my creativity! Anything from Tupac to Tim McGraw. I also love the podcast ‘We’re Just Hairdressers’ and do tons of guided meditation to help me stay grounded and calm!

Pricing:

  • Custom Color starts at $200
  • Handtied Extensions start at $1250
