Today we’d like to introduce you to David Burton.

David Burton

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is David Burton. I was born and raised in Indiana, all over until about 14 years old. When I was 14, I moved out to Colorado to be with my mother whom I had never really lived with before it was always a weekend type deal. I moved out to Colorado at 15 and within 6 months my mother had told me to move out, that I was too much on her husband and they were moving.

My options were to pack my bag and go back home or stay in Colorado and find out how to make it. So being stubborn like I was, of course I stayed I made it all through high school no matter how I had to. I made it through high school a year late. I was late graduating because I had dropped out to work full time to survive and have a roof over my head.

There for a while, I slept in my car or at parks or friends’ houses when able. I didn’t have a plan after high school and didn’t know what my future held. So, I joined the Army! Yup, that rite joined and shipped off…….. to Oklahoma (Fort Sill) for my basic training. Then off the fort bliss for my regular duty station!

Fast forward some years, I got out of the army and almost instantly got addicted to meth and heroin. I was addicted for several years. Almost died from Pneumonia and finally was arrested and booked on January 1st, 2014 where I would start my 4-year sentence in Colorado! 2 years in prison and 2 years halfway and parole.
Now back up just a little when I got out of the army, I found a job working on garage doors. As you know I like doing garage doors. It became a skill; it became something I knew and was finally really good at!

After working for a Garage door company on and off for several years, watching them over and over do business wrong or make mistakes ……. I finally got to the point where I thought I was good enough to ask for a raise. So later we went to dinner (me and the bosses) I asked for a raise my boss at the time looked at me and said “Oh you’re a felon you’re not worth more than 14 an hour, and no one else will hire you.” With that being said, I left that company and started my company QUALITY GARAGE DOOR SERVICES OF NOCO in 2019.

I am very super blessed to have my company. I always knew from growing up with lesser means and 8 kids that being poor and struggling wasn’t in my cards later I just didn’t know how my name would ever mean anything, now I’m successful, and I have my 3 little girls, and I’m so thankful that God put his healing hands over my addiction, he watched me out of the shadow and made my dreams relevant.

He showed me I was worth more than 14 dollars an hour worth more than where I came from and worth more than any mistake, I had ever made in the past he showed me the importance of thriving, success, passion, drive, character, love, passion, faith, kindness and patience. All these tools I have gained have made me the successful Entrepreneur, small business owner, and father that I am.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I faced addiction I faced prison. I faced hardship. Growing up with nothing. Coming from no chance of survival.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an artist when it comes to my work. It’s just not about selling doors and installing them. It’s about making someone’s house beautiful, it’s about connecting with people and understanding them so I understand what they like, feel, and want. I love my work, it’s not a job if you love it.

The connection I make with customers, the excitement of how I get to share my story, hear others’ stories, I get to listen to people who have great advice for me and some who could care less. All the different characteristics of my job make it out to be living in a world in the world.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Honestly, we are growing, we are getting busier and we do plan to become one of the biggest companies in Northern Colorado!! We took a shift change last year into pushing our business this year to be the best it’s been so far. From buying my first business truck to now looking at my Next 1 we are excited to finally with patience to be growing and thriving.

I’m hoping within the next 5 years, I have a couple of guys that I can send out and give work to help not only their families but others to understand there is a company out there that does great work, and who cares about more than just your money and who people can call and trust to handle any garage door situation.
