Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
David Hapgood is the founder and craftsman behind timber +rust, a Colorado-based custom furniture and fabrication company specializing in one-of-a-kind pieces built from wood and steel. His journey started in 2018 when he needed some furniture for his newly built cabin and couldn’t find anything in the correct dimensions or style he was looking for. This is where timber + rust was born! David combines traditional craftsmanship with rugged, modern design to create furniture that is both functional and artistic. Every timber + rust piece is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted with an emphasis on quality, character, and materials that will stand the test of time. No two pieces are the same and walking the thin line of style and function is the game David likes to play!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has been a very bumpy road with steep learning curves and expensive mistakes. Also turning your passion into a business that has to sustain is not for everyone!

I have had zero formal training and have learned everything I know by doing the work and building custom projects.
