Today we’d like to introduce you to Dion Studinski.
Hi Dion, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, launching several successful companies over the years. However my journey into dog training started with a personal struggle: I had a reactive dog and couldn’t find a trainer who could truly help. After multiple failed attempts, I turned to the world of working and protection dog training and found a mentor specializing in Schutzhund, which is German for “protection dog”.
Through their guidance, I learned the power of precision training, drive development, and behavioral shaping. Not only did it transform my dog, but it completely changed the way I understood training. That experience became the foundation of the system I use today, one that actually works, especially for difficult cases. By blending real-world working dog techniques with a practical, results-driven approach, I help family dogs achieve reliability and behavioral stability in everyday life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest challenges has been pushing past the mainstream reliance on all-positive training methods. While reward-based techniques work for many dogs, they often fall short when dealing with serious behavioral issues like aggression or anxiety. A highly reactive dog, for example, needs more than just treats and praise. It requires clear boundaries, structure, and a balanced approach to feel secure and learn appropriate behavior.
Many trainers promote methods that simply don’t work for every dog, especially those with complex challenges. I had to prove that my system, built on real-world experience and working dog principles, was different. Through persistence, continuous learning, and word-of-mouth referrals, Ancillary K9 grew into the trusted dog training practice it is today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Ancillary K9, we specialize in obedience, aggression, and behavioral issues, breaking down complex behaviors into simple, actionable training for owners. Using canine psychology, science-based methods, and years of experience, we resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Another thing that sets us apart is our commitment to long-term success for both the dogs and their owners. Every client has my personal cell number, and I’m available for consultations long after training ends. My goal isn’t just quick results, it’s lasting change, ensuring dogs maintain good behavior by reinforcing structure, leadership, and consistency in their daily lives.
Many of my clients have tried dog training in the past without success, which has left them feeling helpless. We give them hope as we believe every dog can learn with the right guidance and training. I find it rewarding to be the trainer who finally makes a difference, helping people understand their dogs, strengthening their bond, and fixing behavior issues for good. I’ve saved countless dogs from being rehomed, surrendered, or euthanized. Knowing I’ve made that impact is deeply fulfilling.
We don’t offer gimmicks or generic solutions. Our system delivers real results, especially for dogs with behavioral challenges. We care deeply about our clients and their dogs and are committed to their success. If you’ve struggled to find training that works, we’re here to help. You don’t have to give up on your dog.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting any business is a risk. You’re putting your time, money, and reputation on the line without any guarantees. But I believe risk becomes more manageable when you have a solid plan, surround yourself with the right experts, and stay adaptable.
With Ancillary K9, I took a chance on doing things differently. To me, risk isn’t about being reckless. It’s about having the confidence to move forward without guarantees and trusting yourself to figure it out along the way. It was a risk, but with the right strategy and a willingness to adjust as I learned, it’s paid off.
