Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Lindsey.
Hi Dylan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from Fort Collins and started doing photography when I was young at my brothers baseball games as a way to pass the time. As I grew older I grew away from it and focused my time more on politics and advocacy. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college when I was working on a political campaign that I started taking photos again. Using a Canon 6d I had checked out from the university’s library, I covered an on campus debate and had my photos picked up by the university. An on campus mentor of mine encouraged me to apply for a student photographer position in the office of Student Affairs where I grew more comfortable behind the camera, covering events and taking headshots for a variety of student organizations. At about the time that I made the transition to the university’s central marketing division I started to branch out and do photography independently. I registered my LLC with the CO Secretary of State and began accepting clients for photography, simple graphic design, and communications audits. These days, I keep busy with my own classes as I finish my undergraduate degree, graduate sessions, and event/athletics coverage for a variety of clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am fortunate to have had a mostly smooth road to running my own business. Though I have bounced back and forth between in house communications and booking clients privately, I have found things to appreciate about both. The stability and mentorship that comes from working in house as an intern or communications assistant helps me grow, though I have also come to enjoy the freedom and hustle that comes with working for myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am still a student by day with a full course load as I prepare to graduate in March 2026 with a double major in political science and strategic communications from the University of Denver. With all of my classes crammed into two days a week, I spend two days a week interning at the state capitol and one day a week (and some weekends) continuing my in house work for the University where I am an active contributor to the strategy and content of their branded social media pages. I am known for the vividness of my work and the way that I connect with my subject to get natural, comfortable photos that they love.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
One of my biggest mentors is Curtis Esquibel who is the Senior Director of Communications & Community Engagement at the Boettcher Foundation. Since I initially interviewed for the scholarship, through my one year internship with the foundation, and even now I still rely on Curtis for advice and honest feedback on my work.
Other mentors for whom I am incredibly grateful are my supervisor in university marketing, Lainie Fickau, my freshman year mentor, Jessie Stellini, my friends who have gotten used to me always having a camera, and my entrepreneurial parents.
