Conversations with Emily Schmidt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Schmidt.

Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Roaming Photo two years ago after having been asked to take photos of a couple I was friends with. At the time I was working doing brand and fashion photography but I quickly fell in love with capturing, well, love itself. Something that is really important to me is capturing memories and moments that matter. I always say that my goal in life is to someday be old and sharing stories with the grandkids while they respond with shock and laughter- it’s the dream. That’s what Roaming Photo is about, taking one of the biggest days of your life and creating physical memories that you can carry with you- evidence if you will. Now I travel all over the state of Colorado capturing those moments for each one of my couples as they celebrate love, family and the start of their lives together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road but challenges build character and you come out the other side better than you were before. I think my biggest struggle most of the time is the constant evolution of my work and my ideas. It can sometimes be overwhelming to feel like there’s always more that you could or things that you could do better but at the same time, that’s what drives me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding photographer! I specialize in weddings and couples while dabbling in brand/fashion photography and occasionally maternity photography. I’ve heard from my clients that I’m most known for my bright and colorful photography style and my ability to capture pure, genuine joy between my couples. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in the last two years, I’ve been so blessed to make connections with so many people who have helped me build my business and my community. That’s my WHY. The people who ask me to join them on their journey and capture those memories are all so incredible, it’s the best feeling to be a part of something that matters so much to them.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creativity. I’ve been someone with a lot of ideas, my interests have always been in the arts. I grew up loving fashion, photography, music, etc. so to be able to have a career that lets me indulge those passions is such a blessing. I get to spend my days creating art that people love, I can’t really ask for more than that.
