Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Evans.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In its simplest version, I have an undeniable passion for fitness and training the human body. Way back when…I worked for an Anheuser Busch distributorship. With the position I held, there were days when I and my partner would finish up a few hours early. Those days, I head to the gym to get a lift in. The thing about that was the fact that my dipping into the gym at that time wasn’t the only workout for me that day.
It was often a 2nd or 3rd lift for me that day alone. When my superiors got wind of it, they warned me, because they didn’t want me to lose my job. After NOT going to the gym when I finished up early one day, I couldn’t stay away.
Realizing I wanted to be in the gym all day every day, I decided I wanted to put my major at the time on hold (which was business management) and changed it to Kinesiology. The rest is probably history – I’ve never looked back. I have an authentic passion for sports/athletes and the gym, and I’ve been fortunate and blessed to find a career that encompasses all of that!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think it has been what I’d call a smooth road, but there certainly haven’t been any major setbacks, this entire journey has felt like I should’ve been on it all along.
Every step of the way has felt as if it’s where I should be when I am supposed to be there. Realizing I wanted to train athletes; becoming a specialist and moving to Denver to be the strength and conditioning coach for a professional organization…all felt like it was meant to me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Professional Strength & Conditioning Specialist. I specialize in training high-level athletes to perform at their highest level. For the past 2 decades, my job has been to help athletes maximize their genetic potential and maximize injury prevention. Before I moved to Denver, I lived and started my career in Vegas. I worked at a sports academy that was known for training athletes.
That reputation followed me to Denver and grew even stronger when I became the strength and conditioning coach for a professional lacrosse team and ran the best speed/agility summer clinics in the metro area. I think I am most proud of deciding to chase my ultimate dream (to be the S & C coach for a professional team – be completely in charge of the fitness and performance of a professional organization), moving to a city where I didn’t know anyone, and then having that dream come true a year or so after I moved out here. People ask me all the time how I could just pull up anchor and move to a city not knowing another human being that lives there knowing I was going to be successful.
I never really know how to answer that question, but I am very proud that I did it! I think the one thing that sets me apart from others is my experience training on the highest level (professional and Olympic athletes) with ultimate success. I’ve worked with an Olympic gold medalist and for 7 seasons I put the fittest lacrosse team on the planet on the field. Countless people have credentials (formal education + certifications, etc.) – but very few have those credentials AND have worked with the athletes and teams I’ve had the privilege of working with.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Always playing sports! Year-round; in the schoolyard; in the streets till the lights came on; organized…I played it all – all the time!
