Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Guerrero. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Fabian Guerrero and brother Nicolas Guerrero started Bruha in late 2022 as a small project. Bruha’s first single “Tonight” was recorded in Fabian Guerrero’s high school bedroom. After a good reception, Bruha started to become a more serious thought in Fabian’s mind. With that, Fabian recorded an eight-song EP “Amateur Hour” and a single, “The Dream”, which was played on local radio 88.5 KGNU. More recognition meant more exposure in the local music scene.
As time went by, members came and went until stumbling upon current lead guitarist, Adam Diaz, who was a perfect addition to the group. Shortly after that, Fabian attended a local DIY show; where he met Dasan, who was the mind behind his local band Mijasol. Fabian noticed that they were short a lead guitarist, and afterward, pleasantries were exchanged, Fabian was invited to a practice session with Mijasol. Dasan thought that Fabian was a good fit and invited him to join.
As the months grew warmer and the flowers rose from the dead, Mijasol disbanded and Dasan was screwed, royally screwed. Bruha was also in an odd stage, and Fabian had introduced the possibility of Dasan joining his project. An endeavor that he accepted with open arms. After the first practice, they knew they had something unique, a solid base to build on, and cojones.
With determination and magnificent melanin, they tackled the summer head-on. The cigarettes burned, the notes played, laughs were shared, and the band grew tighter just like their budget. They traveled foreign lands far and wide, one axis to the other (only El Paso, TX). Fabian’s courageous charisma has granted the group opportunities for different scenes.
Nicolas’ brutal but sufficient criticisms have kept the band level-headed and real. Adam’s indecipherable personality and good-humored nature keep the band from breaking out in a kung-fu battle, subsequently leading to lawsuits. Dasan’s perfectionist nature influences the band to see every single strategy to better themselves. Together they make Bruha.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If everything goes according to plan, you’re doing something wrong. Being a band brings challenges and hurdles, but being a good band means you’re able to excel past the potholes. Although it is easy to succumb to the pressures of clashing mindsets, transparency works like a subway sandwich. Do with that information as you will.
That being said, the biggest obstacle Bruha faces is, well, being Bruha. We have faced many humbling experiences, and we’re lucky that we allow ourselves to be humbled. Traveling to some bummer shows takes a toll on morale, no question about it. But that only amplifies the blessings we’ve come across.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Fabian is a well-known demolition expert. “I don’t know, I just pick up concrete and throw it away, there’s not much to it.” Adam works in a warehouse, we’ll call it Wamazon. “I work in a warehouse, we’ll call it Wamazon.” Dasan works in a highly lucrative profession, we’re not quite sure. “Why are you asking me what I do? What do you care, just forget about it okay!”
Nic is a sophomore in high school. “I’d rather play music than write papers about the great depression and how to convert Celsius to Kelvin.” We have no idea what we’re doing. Help? But when we are all together, we work under the name Bruha, we work in perfecting our musical crafts so that we can share and inspire the people of Colorado and one day the world.
We get together every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to hone in on our musical knowledge and connection.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us is being able to inspire and show the next musicians of Denver that they can do it to with hard work and determination. And the occasional paycheck is also pretty cool sometimes.
As well as having a satisfied mind after a gig or accomplishment, and still striving for that next high. There’s not a whole lot that we feel we can share about success as we are still on the hunt to define ultimate success for ourselves.
All with time of course.
