Conversations with Fatima Reeves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Reeves.

Hi Fatima, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My Story
I’m a licensed massage therapist in Colorado, and my journey began in 1997 in Stillwater, Minnesota, working as an office manager for my father, a chiropractor who founded Ancient Ways Chiropractic. He specialized in Ayurvedic medicine, and I practiced a massage modality called Pancha Karma on his clients under his guidance. That experience planted the seeds for the healing work I do today.

After years spent producing and performing music and working as a nanny, life brought me full circle. Following my father’s passing and a difficult divorce, my sister Shiloah—an acupuncturist—encouraged me to start offering massage again and rent a space in her office. I took her advice, and it completely changed my life. My daughter has loved seeing me build a business doing something that brings me peace and purpose.

I believe the human body is profoundly intelligent—more cells exist within us than stars in the sky, constantly communicating and recalibrating. Massage therapy helps release the nervous system, allowing the body to repair, heal, and evolve naturally. Every session reminds me that healing is a shared process; I’m walking that path right alongside my clients.

My family has always lived by holistic principles. My mother, far ahead of her time, raised us organic, vegetarian, and conscious of what we consumed, thought, and felt. My father taught us that the mind, body, and spirit are one continuum, and that emotions become matter when unexpressed. Those lessons continue to shape my practice and my life.

Today, I’m grateful to do work that I wholeheartedly believe in—to offer healing, teach my daughter the values I grew up with, and carry on my family’s legacy. Massage therapy is one of the oldest known forms of medicine, and to me, it’s both a calling and a way of life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like everyone, I’ve had my share of heartache, health challenges, and financial pressures. Being a single mom also comes with its own set of trials, but it’s taught me resilience and balance.

Losing my dad was by far the hardest moment in my life. He was not only my father but my teacher and inspiration. My sisters and I are still learning how to carry forward his legacy while finding our own ways to heal and grow. Through it all, I’ve learned that gratitude is the most important practice—staying thankful helps me move through every challenge with grace.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music producer and singer/songwriter as well as a licensed massage therapist.

In my massage practice, I specialize in deep relaxation massage, developed through years of practicing Pancha Karma under my father’s Ayurvedic guidance. That early experience taught me the importance of rhythm, flow, and presence in healing. I also integrate cupping therapy and VibroAcoustic healing with singing bowls played directly on the body to release tension and calm the nervous system.

As an artist, I’ve released over 60 original songs produced in my home studio, and I occasionally perform live. Both my healing and musical work share the same intention—to restore balance, open the heart, and bring people into harmony with themselves.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think my biggest lesson was that we all learn our own lessons (or not) in our own time, and to have grace with yourself and others always. What we think about becomes us—so stay diligent with that internal dialogue and notice when you’re in a feedback loop that’s not working for you or your health.

I believe we are spirits first, having this experience in a body, and “it’s hard to have a body” is something I find myself saying often to my clients. Most come in with something that hurts, and the truth is—that’s something all humans share: pain. With more compassion for ourselves, our expectations, and for others, I believe our collective nervous system would be calmer and more at peace.

I see that within my own household of just me and my daughter. When I take care of myself, I’m taking care of her. Live without regrets—be bold with your time here.
