Conversations with Francoise E Netter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francoise E Netter.

Hi Francoise E, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Europe to all Holocaust Survivors and came to the US at the age of three and went back and forth to Europe until the age of seven. At the age of Five, I knew that I was here on earth to serve others through my creativity. I was also an Empath and started dreaming things that would come true and developed clairvoyant abilities.

At the age of Seven, my Father decided to move us back to Europe and bought a house in Nice, France for us to move into. My mother decided to divorce my Father, we stayed in America and I never saw my Father again until I was twenty-one. At the age of Nine, my mother married my step-father and I was sexually and emotionally abused from the age of Nine until Sixteen when my mother finally believed me and threw my step-father out of the house.. My step-father was an Auschwitz survivor.

Why I share this story is because my childhood which was filled with dysfunction, launched me on a journey to explore what allowed some individuals to survive travesty and trauma and become just like their perpetrators, like my step-father, and what allowed others like Viktor Frankel, Nelson Mandela, Alice Hertz-Summers and others to move beyond their trauma and horrors to resiliency and greatness.

The rest of my story led me to deep personal, spiritual and creative exploration and transformation. I became self supporting at the age of Sixteen and was the first person in my family to go to University and pursued my Masters Degree in Dance and Dance Therapy. I also studied Meditation and Yoga in India and launched a career to serve others through my creativity. I also continued to develop my intuitive abilities and included that skill into my work.

Over the decades, I did deep personal recovery for the emotional and sexual abuse and began to incorporate my healing and experience into the work with others. I became well-known for my work in the Bay Area and was hired by Veteran hospitals, private corporations, health and Wellness companies, many Universities and private organizations and individuals in the work I pioneered with movement and consciousness. I worked with thousands of sexual abuse survivors and those suffering from PTSD, authored my book, Movement For The Mind–Dance That Awakens Healing, Inspiration & Wisdom, several self-help CDs and appeared on television, radio, newspaper articles, magazine articles and Podcasts.

After Covid, much of my visibility and work dissolved. Today, my work focuses on expanding facilitating individuals and groups in healing trauma and stress, and activating Joy. I have also included the role of inter-generational trauma and how important it is to heal and transform those subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle energies so that they do not continue to get passed down generationally.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Because I was a pioneer and did not have any models for my work, I piece-sealed many part time jobs and often struggled financially. Becoming a Dancer at twenty-one was not easy and certainly not conventional and yet, I persevered. I often stood out on a limb and created a journey that had to be “bushwhacked”. I often felt alone, but always motivated by my purpose.

Covid was the hardest time and I am still struggling from the effects of that time on my work and life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been a champion for the Arts this whole lifetime. I believe the Arts connect us to a vital part of our Spirit and Soul, not as in religion, but as in a fundamental connection to purpose, the Alpha Brain Wave state and the Universal Field. For me the Arts and Nature were my first introduction to meditation and experiences of flow. I would get lost in drawing and painting and used to draw my own comic books when I was a child. I have been a professional Dancer, Dance and Art Therapist, Artist, Actress and Author. I love singing, but never trained my voice.

In my late 20’s I was given a grant to bring back the Arts to Santa Clara County, CA. I along with nine other Artists brought the Arts to K-12 schools as an integrative program to learning. I also started a program of Art Therapies to schools, HalfWay Houses and prisons. I continued integrating the Arts in corporations, Stanford University Business School and was accepted as an Artist at Art Reach, Young Audiences and several Artist in residence programs.

I taught Art and Dance in the schools in Colorado and then began working with Educators in Graduate Credit Professional Development courses. Many of my courses are about Creativity and integrating the Arts into the curriculum.

I also developed a Movement For The Mind Teacher Training Program, which is the work I pioneered and developed. It not only integrates right and left brain learning, but is very powerful in facilitating Stress Management, Creativity development, Psychological and Physical Healing.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Michael Ray was my mentor and champion at Stanford Business School. He loved and supported my work, wrote the forward to my book and brought me into corporations and introduced me to others who were able to embrace my work.

I also looked up to resilient survivors and my heroes like Viktor Frankel, Alice Hertz Summers, Edith Eva Edger, and Nelson Mandela.

Several Psychiatrists believed in my work and collaborated with me in their practices.

My Master in India launched a path for me that allowed me to embrace my mystical side and to develop my intuition and purpose.

I’ve had several friends who championed my work, my belief in myself and my creativity–too many to list, but a few are: Kathy Jacoby, Diana Treglia, Ram Butler, Marsha Clark and Jay Wissot.
