Today we’d like to introduce you to Genevieve Peek.
Hi Genevieve, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thanks for having me! I was working in finance and every day I was becoming more and more frustrated by how unfulfilled I felt. I was trying to write music in my spare time but not committing to it. After a lot of soul-searching, I decided to leave that behind and go back to school for audio production. With that new adventure came a renewed desire to play in a band, so I began seeking out like-minded musicians to collaborate with.
Eventually, the stars aligned and The UNSOLVED was formed in the autumn of 2021. From there, things took off. It was an incredibly fruitful collaboration, and within a fairly short period, we had a solid catalog of original material. Since that time, we’ve been gigging around Denver, releasing singles, and recently, we signed to an independent record label called DI Records.
We’re working on building our network and fan base and looking ahead to supporting larger acts and participating in festivals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The easy part of this project has been writing, recording, and performing our music. We only wish there were more hours in the day for those things. Our biggest challenge came when one of our founding members had to step away from the band due to some external factors.
Band chemistry is so important and difficult to come by, and it has taken us some time to get back on our feet. In addition to his energy and creative contributions, we lost our rehearsal space with the shake-up.
While that felt significant at the time, it served as the impetus for building our home studio to rehearse and record our material.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We pride ourselves on our ability to connect with our audience in a live setting. Live music has changed so much in recent years so we’ve gone back to basics. We’re a simple four-piece band that plays the whole song live, and our recordings reflect our live shows. We aim to create a raw, personal experience that folks can get excited about.
I feel such a thrill when I hear people singing along to our music; it demonstrates how a powerful song can form a bond between the artist and the audience. Ultimately, I’m just trying to do what others have done before me: write songs that move people, make them feel seen, and make them feel understood. I think the best example is our most recent single, ¨Strike the Match¨. It’s a song about letting go of what’s comfortable to pursue and what sets your soul on fire.
It’s autobiographical, but I believe it’s an experience to which so many can relate. I’ve been lucky enough to have people reach out to me after a show to tell me that the song’s message resonated with them. In one case, someone let me know that they were inspired enough to pick up a pen and channel their perspective. It’s been incredibly touching to impact others in the way that so many artists have inspired me.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Nothing that I make on my own is as good as work that is co-created by collaborative partners who understand me to my core.
I’m grateful for the contributions of my bandmates and how we’ve elevated each other’s creativity. “No man is an island.”
