Conversations with Han Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Han Nguyen.

Han Nguyen

Hi Han, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I first got into the Beauty Industry by just having my own interest in makeup and skincare since that was my outlet to be as creative as I wanted to be. I decided to enroll in Esthetician school at Emily Griffith Technical College in 2018 and loved every day of it. I also went to Barber school at the same technical college and became a barber in 2019! Although I don’t cut hair anymore, I appreciate every single connection I made there!

When I was in Esthetician School, we had a day where a lash artist came into class to demonstrate the process of doing Lash Extensions and it caught my attention immediately. After class ended, I looked up a class near me to learn and become certified and got my first certification in lash extensions in 2018, my second certification in 2020, my third certification in 2021, and my fourth certification in 2022, all certificates ranging from different lash mapping styles to networking and building a successful lash business.

I first started practicing out of my home then once I felt ready, I got my first salon suite in 2020! From there, I moved states to Las Vegas in 2021 and successfully was able to build new clientele. Now that I’ve moved back to Colorado, I’m forever so grateful for my clients in Las Vegas and my clients in Denver for always supporting me no matter where I’m at in the world.

Every lash artist can tell you how difficult it is to start with zero clientele and to work your way up, I had my ups and downs when I first started doing lash extensions but it’s all a part of the journey of starting something new! I can genuinely say how proud I am of myself for never giving up and for continuing to show up for clients who show up for me. My clients become more than just “clients” they’re all my friends and they even become family for always supporting my small business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I want to say my biggest challenge/obstacle was when I had a spinal injury in 2018 due to a car accident which made the act of doing lash extensions a lot harder on my body. I’ve been a business owner and a lash artist for 6 years now and my first 2 years were mentally and physically the hardest for me.

I constantly was getting physical therapy treatments all while still doing lash extensions at home and working a part-time job to help support the lost time from having to cut my hours short to fully heal my spine. Once my spine healed completely, I learned about ergonomics and practiced good posture daily! Health is wealth!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own my business “The Honey Bar” in Lakewood, CO! I provide Lash extension services: Classic, Light Volume, Wet Lashes, Volume, and Mega Volume extensions and I specialize in Color lash extensions and wispy sets.

I feel like I am known for my wispy lash sets that look effortlessly natural and flirty in my client’s eyes! I also love mixing color lash extensions all throughout the lash set or just in specific areas. I’m most proud of my growth. Comparing my first-ever client in 2018 to my current client in 2024, it’s so cool to see your work evolve and continue to evolve.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To never give up no matter how hard it gets. Constantly show up for not only yourself but for the people who show up for you! Your time and energy are everything, don’t waste them.
