Conversations with Heather Steele

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Steele

Hi Heather, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began in San Diego, California where I was born. We moved to Iowa for my father’s work and by the time I was 4, I was split between Los Angeles, California with my mother and my father in Lamoni, Iowa. My parents were Christian missionaries who, once divorced, very successfully recreated themselves. My Mother was a pioneer in her time as a successful and driven divorced woman with two kids on her own in LA. She held many titles including Miss Hollywood, Miss California and more as a beauty pageant queen, she was also a business owner, world class international ballroom dancer and actress. Her lifestyle exposed me to theatre, dance, music, modeling and gymnastics. My childhood included many stars and socialites. My Father owned a small horse ranch in Lamoni, Iowa. He was a beloved father of 4 kids, revered professor, minister, musical producer, entertainer and community leader. He was a “renaissance man” with the title of Dr. of Computer Science at Graceland University. Both of my parents were academics and world travelers. I was blessed to be raised by two big dreamers and doers. My childhood included world travel, horseback riding, every sport, theater, music, academics, service, religion and community. I was inspired to serve and work with people to create their dreams and live their best lives. That desire still drives my work.

My career started as a journalist. I learned to listen and write about people’s stories. I eventually was a VP for an International firm. I transitioned my career into being a counselor where I learned to hold space for people to heal. Eventually, I wrote my own curriculums and as The Founder of Integrative Holistic Coaching, I created Guidebooks, Workbooks, Immersion Retreats, Experiential Learning Seminars, Holistic Workshops, Professional Trainings and personal and professional development programs that elevate people’s performance and improve their lives.

I moved to Denver in 2000 to launch my counseling and Life Coach practice while continuing my women’s retreats. My family was in Denver and I wanted my 12 year old son to have his family near. I was hired as a Director of Communications and was discouraged about becoming a successful Life Coach in Denver. I was told that there was “a LIfe Coach on every corner”. Bottom line, I didn’t listen. I had a phenomenal Life Coach myself so, I continued to train, improve and work harder. Most of my training was in service to others and in the end all of it paid off. By 2011, I was one of the most successful Life Coaches in my area and that has blessed me with business for over 23 years and while traveling abroad.

My milestones were:
– 2000 – Launched Steele Communications, Inc.
– 2002 – Steele Communications had a subsidiary company Steele Coaching & Communications, Inc.
– 2004 – Launched Legacy Training Institute (LTI)
– 2004 – I became the founder of Integrative Holistic Coaching
– 2006 – Windriders Adventure Camps was launched at full for over 16 years, (I was the Co-Founder and Creator)
– 2011 – LTI Executed the first 6 months Legacy Training International (LTI)
– 2012 – The Integrative Holistic Life Coach (IHC) certification was complete.
– 2012 – The Just Us for Couples Seminar was packed all over the country
– 2013 – Wrote the Realizations
-2020 – Legacy Training Institute became Legacy Training International

As the Founder of Integrative Holistic Coaching (IHC) and the author of:
Life Coach Guidebook
Life Coach Workbook
Just Us Guidebook
Just Us Workbook
WindRiders Guidebook
WindRiders Facilitation Manual
Upcoming Fiction: “Fly Fishing For Jesus”

Bottom line, I have been able to write, coach, facilitate and serve my clients for over 25 years. I have been beyond blessed by the receptivity of my work. I spend my time in Denver, Colorado near my family, at my ranch in Wyoming or in my home in Cardiff by the Sea, California with my partner.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggles occurred when the Pandemic hit. Personal and Professional Development, Spiritual work, Couples Counseling, Team Training and Experiential Learning became trendy on social media thus, inspiring me to launch a new curriculum that has Life Coaches be more accountable than their avatar. I am in the process of re-inventing what it means to be a Life Coach, Counselor or Practioner in today’s narrative. It is difficult because true healing is from within and the coach or mirror that sits in front of you while you take on your work needs to be a very sincere, trained and clear one. The marketing for Life Coaches and the messaging is confronting to me. I am doing something about it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Steele Communications, Inc. – Coaching and Training Company.
Legacy Training International, LLC. – Certifications for Life Coaches and Facilitators.
WindRiderscamp.com – Adventure and Leadership Camps.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson as a coach is:
The “Correction” always goes on the Coach.
The most important lesson as a facilitator is:
The biggest potency test is the biggest unexperienced love in the room.
The most important lesson in my journey is:
You can only be as loved and as great as you are to yourself. And, that loving yourself is only and always in service to others.
