Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Kincaid.
Hi Jane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started creating watercolor greeting cards over 10 years ago selling them locally. Over the years I began helping out behind the counter at some of the stores my cards sold at.
When I started to work at a small boutique a few years ago that was only 10 minutes from my home I fell in love with the small community of people and saw a need for an event that brought everyone together.
I thought if all the small businesses were all open late at least once a month then folks would start coming to shop, eat, and be entertained all at once.
I wanted to create a map with all the information for the evening in one place to help people see what all we have to offer… and I really wanted to draw a map 😆
We started out small but are continuing to grow. Since that first mingle on Main I have joined The Wellington Main Street Program to help with other events and they help with printing my hand drawn posters, maps, and coloring pages for the Mingle each month. I have also opened up my own art studio in the old Wellington hotel that is also a home base for The Mingle on Main.
I love visiting with the businesses each month to hand deliver my hand drawn supplies and seeing the streets a little fuller on the third Friday of every month.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since the Mingle on Main is always the third Friday of the month if the weather doesn’t cooperate it can be a pretty dead night for retail but we want folks to know they can depend on us to be open so we try anyways.
It’s not always a big sales night but we keep trying. Running a business in a small town is hard work but it’s well worth being a part of ❤️
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a passion for hand drawing and painting watercolors.
Whether it’s creating cards, doing markets, advertising or teaching what I do, I love it all.
I love what I do and do it everyday. I’m always planning new and better ways of doing things and I’m always working on something but unless it sells it doesn’t make you any money.
At times I get discouraged but when something works out like it’s supposed to the reward is amazing 🥰
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was shy growing up and was diagnosed with dyslexia at a young age so had trouble in school except in art class. I always loved art and wished I could do it all the time. Finally after a car accident in 2011 I began embracing my art and have never turned back. I have found my place in the world.
