Conversations with Jason Beauchamp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Beauchamp.

Jason Beauchamp

Hi Jason, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was seven years old when I started to draw characters and doodles. My father had found some how-to-draw art books at a garage sale and brought them home to me and my brother. I took to them immediately and started to freehand drawings of my own. Art blossomed over the years and I knew it was something that made me happy. I had to understand all the techniques and styles. It’s what I wanted to do with my life,

Art has always been the constant in my life it’s always there. It always makes me feel something about it, and to be honest, it is what inspires me, and makes me feel emotions. When I get a viewer to feel something from my work, it’s then when I feel the success of the work itself.

I’ve always been an artist who is always changing and learning new techniques and styles to incorporate into my body of work so I can connect with my audience. I think success comes from within yourself. If you believe in yourself and have confidence in what your work represents as an artist, then you are already successful and others will follow.

I can say that I would rather discuss the artwork that has inspired rather than the work that has not. As an Artist, you have to be emotionally free from the subjective comments from the viewer. In closing, I would like to say to all the artists out there, create and show as much artwork as you can to define who you are as an artist and continue to build on that success and do not let anyone say anything different, believe in yourself.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is paved with all sorts of obstacles. You cannot let those get you down, use that to channel your inner artist to bring out the best of you.

I was at this huge art show here in Denver and this crowd of people came over and started to look at my body of work. It was the first time I had ever shown my abstract work. This was early in my career so my body of work was not as refined as I would have liked, and it was at that moment a guy yelled out.” That looks like someone vomited paint on a canvas.”

I was mortified at that moment because my heart and soul were up on that wall. I was hurt after that was said, but I gathered myself quickly and said “That would be something I would pay to see.” He laughed and said, “So would I.” It was at that moment I knew I could withstand the subjective comments. Stand tall and believe in yourself and the artwork that is the success.

Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a working abstract artist. I create all different works of art. I have worked all my years into learning every technique and art style to incorporate into my body of work. I specialize in everything and nothing. I create to inspire and tell a story of emotions.

The vibrant abstract paintings are inspired by a sporadic range of human emotions and transmit my feelings to the canvas through a method of painting I call “Fluid acrylics.” I mix paint with water, paint thinner, or mineral spirits to produce a thin flowing consistency, then apply the paint to his canvas using palette knives or my hands and fingers, I believe it sets my body of work apart from others, I use no traditional brushes on my abstract artworks.

I am best known for my abstract expressionist paintings, they come from within my emotional thoughts and experiences.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the art world is forever changing and adapting to new techniques, styles, and technologies. We as artists have to evolve as well to constantly be learning and challenging ourselves to be better artists at anything we create.
