Conversations with Jason LaBella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason LaBella.

Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
18-year-old Jason would have placed me working as a mechanic in an auto shop with a house in the burbs of Denver Colorado. Little did he know, the path that lay ahead would include a drunken night with his future wife convincing him to leave Colorado and move to Hawaii in pursuit of music. This adventure was the catalyst to the actual journey that formed me into the photographer I am today. From obtaining an arts degree while fighting through a debilitating thyroid disease to touring nationally and internationally as a punk drummer, to owning a clothing brand, to being VP of a recruiting firm, to being the photographer I am today, the lessons and stories I’ve collected are many.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. Struggles have included, economic, social, and health issues.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My path in photography started where I believe most others do, landscape and portraiture. After years of photography being more of a hobby, I moved into shooting professional real estate photography with the help of a good friend. As of recent, I have really leaned into the product photography side of the industry, specializing in more of a dark, moody lifestyle shot. This aesthetic has fit well with local brewers and distillers.

What matters most to you?
Connecting and growing with brands that speak to me. It is important to me to help brands bring their culture and story to life through imagery.
