Conversations with Jayme Lamm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayme Lamm.

Hi Jayme, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a former sports reporter turned digital marketing strategist and manager – I have a handful of local clients that I run their social media strategies along with most of their digital marketing needs. I still consider myself new to Denver – I moved here from Houston about two years ago, where I had a sports TV show on FOX and did a ton of charity work. I am still getting my footing here in Denver but absolutely love it.

I have about half of my clients in Houston and half here in Denver, and I am hoping to expand my business locally. My digital marketing strategies help clients grow their brand and visibility, which ultimately grows their bottom line. I love showing people that social media is a great sales funnel and customer service component and that it’s not just a bunch of likes and comments.

My business website is jaymelamm.com

My sports website/blog can be found here: https://theblondeside.com/theblonde/

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ha, if anyone says their road has been smooth, I either totally envy them or call BS. My industry in particular, is one that many people/business owners still don’t understand or value. They don’t understand how a digital footprint can directly lead to new business (whether those are new patients at your med spa, new buyers at your car dealership, new leases at your apartment complex, or something else). Social media is a place to tell your brand’s story and connect with customers – if you’re doing it solely for likes, I hate to be the one to tell you, but you’re doing it wrong.

Running social media strategies can be tricky – it’s not a one-size-fits-all for businesses. What works for one business may not work for another – even in the exact same industry.
You also have a lot of naysayers about social media – saying it doesn’t work, or it’s a time suck (which it definitely can be), but that’s because they haven’t invested in a strategy. Over the past two years, many clients have paused their strategies with me because they think their receptionist or office manager can easily run their social media, but what they don’t understand is that it’s a full-time job.

Also, being new to Denver, it’s been interesting to start cold-calling businesses. Back in Houston, I had such a large network that clients found me by word of mouth or through mutual contacts. For the first time in my eight years in business, I am having to go out and actively find work and make those connections. It definitely keeps me on my toes.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a social media strategist and digital marketer, I focus on ROI and getting sales, not necessarily on whimsical photos. Sure, professional photoshoots are helpful, but so many people focus on expensive drone photography and not on the message they are pushing out to potential customers. I spend my time finding out who the target customer is and crafting messages and strategies to reach those people. Sometimes that is a grainy video that shows behind-the-scenes vs. a full-on photoshoot with models and such.

Both strategies have a place in this business for sure, but I focus more on generating revenue. Too often you have clients that want to know 100% this is working, and that tends to be my main focus.
And although I am an “agency” with a team to support me (videographers, graphic designers, etc.), my clients deal with me each and every time. I have made it a priority to set boundaries, but if there is an immediate need, they don’t have to wait until Monday at 8a to get my attention (usually).

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I tend to follow a ton of social media-related hashtags on Instagram since it’s an ever-changing platform. Unrelated to my work, I’m also obsessed with True Crime, but don’t be scared haha.
