Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Lamb-Norwood.
Hi Jess, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Colorado native, and grew up in a small town. Have an amazing family and had a great childhood. I am a survivor of a sexual assault in my early teens and I believe that changed the direction of my life. Fast forward to my 30s and I started drinking and using drugs that ultimately led to an overdose. I went to treatment and can gratefully say that I’ve been sober nine years now. I wanted to use my experience, not only from my sobriety journey, but to the trauma and lifelong effects from my sexual assault. I believe all of those things led me to where I’m at now working in the industry, helping others navigate their substance abuse and mental health issues. It helps my sobriety every day, working with others and being able to use my experience to show others that there is a way out. I especially love working with women who have experienced divorce, adversity may be dealing with an addiction or mental health issues and helping them find their way. I’m a proud single mom of three kids, and I also run a small rescue farm in Franktown Colorado.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think it has been a relatively smooth road. I see others who have not been given the same opportunities that I have or maybe the same resources that I had access to and I know that things could’ve been so much worse for me. Sobriety has generally been a great road. I unfortunately experienced a divorce and I’m so grateful for my support group and my strong sobriety that helped me get through it. I love what I do as a career and that definitely helps.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work for an amazing company that offers outpatient addiction, medicine and counseling. We specialize in offering medicated, assisted treatment ( MAT) I love that we look at the whole picture when working with individuals, it’s not a one-size-fits-all and we are able to cater treatment to each individual. Also having low to no barriers to care is extremely important to us as we hope we can reach more and more individuals. I have also recently started doing Personal coaching or or Journey guidance as I like to call it! Working with women is the highlight of my day, being a good listener and offering my experience to hopefully help another.
Any big plans?
I am anticipating moving my small rescue farm to a larger location to be able to offer free or low cost events at my farm for people who may not otherwise get a chance to visit the country and to connect with the animals who have also had a not so great start to their life. I hope to grow my love of coaching of women and to be able to incorporate that with my farm. And the company I work for is expanding more and more every day to different states so I’m really excited to be able to offer MAT to more people across the country.
