Conversations with Jesse Crock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Crock.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My painting career started over fifteen years ago. At that time, my artwork was centered around the many outdoor activities I liked to do or watch and recreate them in a slightly abstract way. As my art base grew, I found that the few times I decided to branch out and paint a Colorado landscape scene, I could not keep those pieces in stock for very long. It was at this time I decided to make a switch and begin only painting the colorful Colorado landscapes I had grown up with. Today I continue to use color, mountains and trees as my inspiration and strive to recreate the beauty I see all around.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I think any artist would say, doing art full-time is not a great way to make a living, but if it is what you love you find a way to do it. I am a full-time elementary art teacher so I have to balance time to do my artwork with that in addition to raising a growing family!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an acrylic landscape painter. My work is known and recognized for its vibrant colors and well-known scenes of Colorado. I have been blessed with some great working relationships with two amazing Colorado breweries, the Eddyline Brewery in Buena Vista and the Mountain Toad Brewery in Golden. Both of these breweries are gracious enough to show my artwork year-round which I feel so fortunate to be able to do. I have had the opportunity with Eddyline Brewery to help create a couple of paintings used for beer labels as well as decorate both their brewpub and main restaurant with murals. Mountain Toad brewery has also given me fun opportunities to create murals, one of which then got put onto shirts!

I have also had amazing opportunities to work with both The American Alpine Club and The Colorado Mountain Club for various projects. The latest is my second edition coloring book which is made up of scenes from all over Colorado.

Overall, I take a lot of pride in the fact that I was born and raised in Golden and that I still call it home and have been able to create multiple murals around the city as well.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
When people can’t travel, they buy art (and I am very thankful for that!).

I think that the pandemic and lockdown also taught me how to reconnect with a side of my art that I had gotten away from over the years. During lockdown, I was able to spend more time with a sketchbook in front of me and get back to my early forms of creativity through drawing.
